watch out for those chromis in qt. i had 7 of them in my 40 gallon coral qt and like clockwork lost 1 every 2 days and now left with 2. they where well fed so until i did my research came to find out they are very aggressive to their own kind. now i have only 2 in my 400 gallon healthy as can be. looking back i wish i had separated them soon after the first one died.
Thank you for the heads up, I specifically went through this lfs for that reason they do all the quarantine themselves and I pick them up when they are fat, happy, and disease free. I think they keep them for at least 15 days treating them. I paid a little extra but it beats me taking the loss of fish myself.

I’m probably gonna go this route again for my school of anthias order a bunch and pick them up after they’ve been treated, fat and happy. Cause I’m sure there gonna be some floaters.

like you mentioned it’s tough quarantining schools of fish especially chromis. I’d rather pay more per fish, and have them do the work.

Even after the lfs gives me a clean and happy fish, I might still do another quarantine myself for sometime. Just to make double sure I’m not introducing anything to my display. I hate ich, velvet, all that fun stuff that’s impossible to get out of main displays.

I will have a running quarantine system set up at all times for new fish. Thinking about a 60 gallon from petco when they have the $1 per gallon sale again.

first time i did a qt and still got ich. i even ran hyposalinity for 3 months in my display and cost myself 6 months of maturity and still got ich. i am ok with it bc my powder blue, achilles, all the other tangs are healthy as can be and not effective in any way by the ich. i believe hippo tang are carriers of ich and he seemed to be the only one with a spot or 2 even during hyposalinity at 1008 for 3 months. the hippo is the only one that has spots from time to time but the achilles beside the initial outbreak had 100s of spot early on. i just started feeding fresh frozen seafood blend with lake smelts, shrimp, scallops, cod and nori every other day, pellets constantly and its all good. i feel there is a lot of truth to what that old school reef paul says in that we need our fish to build an immunity to these parasites. my major concern is always velvet and from my understanding a 30 day in copper will ensure it doenst get through, but kind of feel ich is something that most reefers have in their reef and just dont know about it. i would say stay do your research on hippo tangs bc my observation is even with a 30 day copper qt and hypo, he was still the only one to always have ich despite my tank having 4 acanthuride species.

qt is not that difficult if you have the means to do it right and get the hanna copper test kit its very simple i just set it up 1 day before i got fish and never had an issue. i purchased the achilles from tsm aquatics and would just buy all fish from them if i couldve but your limited to their stock and i wanted to add all my tangs in one shot. if i could do it over i would not have added 9 tangs in one shot, they wouldve been fine being added in batches over the course of 6 months.

The hippo and powder blue should be renamed ichmagnus lol. I def need to double down on my quarantine process. I will look into tsm also.

I just got the Hanna copper checker and Hanna multi tester on Black Friday sales last year (those shipments weren’t stolen!!) smh!!!!!

After my move I lost most of my Hanna stuff so went with the multi test station and added the copper test kit too.

That’s awesome, sounds like he’s a happy camper.

Did you get your hippo online or from lfs?

got it at lfs. I don't buy fish or corals on line. I have to see it in person..Yes the hippo is happy. Has a area of it's own to sleep. In a 300 with 2 yellow. 1 purple, 1 tomini and 1 blonde naso..

so if 14” is 400 gallons, I wonder how much 28” filled will be around 800 gallons? So that would mean 72 gallons accounts for my rock, sand, and internal overflow acordind to brs calculator.

I’m not sure it’s 300 gpd, aqua fx great white with booster, I’ve only used air water ice rodi units so it will be intresting to see the differences.
The box said 9 stage rodi unit at 300gpd…..

started filling up tank on friday at 5pm, and have 400 gallons so far at 50 degree water temp and about 39 degrees in my garage. doing about 200 gallons not bad for cold weather production I guess. What do you think?

I find that I get the best production in the winter.
Really? I know water pressure is very low here, builder told me that was by design to save water consumption.

Anyone else feel guilty making this much rodi water? I watered my plants with waste water about 2.5 gallons that took about 2min to fill. Smh

Wow, ours is 70 psi without boost. I put my waste to bins to use later for whatever. If I was making this much water at once I would have no idea what to to with the waste water. You only need to fill the tank once.

Dont go by the salt mix, just take the inside measurement from inside glass (so instead of 160" use 158.5") and under water line ( mines i think 28" waterline, and you will get exact measurement. Your rock and sand just take an educated guess, like do you think it will fill a 30 gallon brute container. I was ticked of when I lost about 40 gallons but its all good I have 150 gallon in my sump so my exact total water volume is 540gallons. Comes in handy when you you need to bring up ALK and its spot on for all time.

I might look into this and see if i can bump the psi a little

Will do…thank you thats exactly what I needed to know for future dosing needs, and stuff like that.
