I am new to this hobby and trying to build a 60 gallon reef tank. I am purchasing this sump second hand but it appears a different set up than most I have seen. The prior owner suggested bio balls in the right compartment. Refugium in the middle section. The return and skimmer section to the left. My though is to have a filter sock set up in the right compartment. Skimmer in the middle and return on the left. Possibly run a MarinePure block in the bubble trap. Is either option a better way to go or is there something else I should consider.

I have a simple 2 chamber sump/refugium.

With yous, I'd bring water in at the right, make the center a refugium with Cheato macro algae and put the skimmer and return pump in the left end.

Mine. The return pump is behind the skimmer. My 90g tank has been on this system for over a year with no issues.
