Thank you everyone again, I’m in the works of piecing together parts to make a custom 20 gallon long sump. My plan is to make four chambers. Filter socks, protein skimmer, refugee, return pump. The protein skimmer is going to be a future thing because I have a great working one that is a hang on and not looking to spend the extra money yet. I wanna get rid of my mechanical filter and run a sump because it looks so much easier to maintain due to the wall behind my tank. I have a hang on refugee that is just a pain to get to and not enough space in my opinion. Looking to see what everybody has came up with I want to run carbon, filter socks, occasional GFO due to high phosphates right now. Not sure on the height of the baffles I want to go with I want enough room in there in case of flooding. I will be using a hang on the back overflow. I am not going to drill my tank.

Thank you really trying to see what people have came up with I’ve seen a couple but would like some pictures of well established sumps. Also the height of the baffles would be nice to get an idea.

This is for a 75 gallon mix reef tank.

So you have some options here, including making your own baffles from glass or acrylic. Having done that before, I now like the sump baffle kits you can get. After a lot of research, and having owned a FijiCube sump baffle kit, I think this is "the best value" for a DIY sump baffle kit for a 20L tank. I built this exact sump (I'll look for a pic), but shortly after my wife gave me permission to go even bigger, so I sold that sump I had just built. But this kit is solid, in my opinion. I'm fully planning on getting their 40B or 60 gallon kit for my upcoming 150 gallon build:

That eBay seller offers the sump kit in a couple other "flavors" so look at their eBay store for more options.

Good luck!

So I'm building my 75 gallon right now. I went with a 40 gallon breeder and modular marine sump kit ( best customer service I ran across btw) I'll post some pictures. If I were you and had the room I'd go as big as possible. I have a fleece roller and skimmer in my first chamber and its tight. I wanted to have a decent amount of room for a fuge. I just got my overflow plumbing done it's not established but here's some pictures.

I'll go and get a full sump picture in a minute.

I will say, I've been in touch with Modular Marine for an overflow I want, and yes, top notch so far. I would not hesitate to recommend their sump baffle kits either.

I actually felt bad for what I put them through lol. I had ordered what I thought I wanted then changed my mind twice. After plenty of emails and several adjusted PayPal invoices I finally received what I should have ordered in the first place. They were always very nice when dealing with my undecided self.

no I cannot fit anything on the side it has to be underneath the tank. I do not have enough room for a 40 gallon. I was looking at the eahopps 1000 as an overflow. I do like the baffle kits. I am pretty good at making my own custom stuff. Thinking about going more custom and doing it myself to save a little bit. The 40 gallon breeder looks great under there unfortunately I do not have enough room due to the stand I already built.

Dual over flow to two filter socks underneath. No roller mat. I don’t mind changing them out easier than my HOB filter changing it. I might just run three chambers. Stick with my HOB protein skimmer I already have on it. SECTION FOR FILTER SOCK, REFUGE, AND THE RETURN SECTION. JUST WANNA BE ABLE TO HAVE EASIER MAINTENANCE AND A LITTLE BIT MORE WATER VOLUME TO WORK WITH. not sure why everything is caps lock.

OK, a 20L sump can support a very large tank; no worries there.

Welcome to the conversation! I might mybe have an idea why your caps lock is on :winking-face:
