Using such a small amount of dry rock and no sand, I hope you plan to have more rock in your sump for proper bacteria propagation. Otherwise, starting out, you are going to be in for a world of hurt with Dino’s, cyano, GHA, etc.

Do you really think I have “such a small amount” of rocks? It thought it was pretty filled to me.

But I think you are right, I do like how sand has a high capacity for bacteria. I think I can have a middle ground of sand x bare bottom.

Maybe I can make my sandbed shallow like the way they look in the picture above. I doubt detritus can go deep inside like that.

I liked it before with the space between.
Your gonna seed with live?
D
I do have about 10 pounds of KP and live rocks in my coral QT which will seed this tank.

My goal is to keep lights off until I add all my herbivores (tangs, urchins, snails). Then I will keep my lights on for 2-3 hours a day max so algae can never take hold.

Herbivores only eat small fresh growth, and keeping lights on for so little won’t allow it to proliferate.

This should (in theory) completely skip the ugly stage.

I have 1/2” to 1” of sand in mine and love it. Great aesthetics, no crap buildup and easy to turnover. I also have 350+ pounds of live rock though too :). If you are not going to have corals, sand sifter gobies will keep it clean for you.

Thank you for the suggestion about the scape. I am able to add more space in between the rocks, I actually didn’t even notice this detail, so I’m grateful you pointed it out! :D

Thank you, D!

Next week they are delivering the tank to my house! The carpenter will also be coming next week and we will see what we are going to do with my current cabinetry.

Here is my 20 year old tank! We will keep the cabinetry the same, but there are some “tweaks” that I’ve been planning. I really like how tanks “stick out” from the furniture. Judging by the work involved, I think it will be too expensive, but I will hear the quote before deciding on if I will keep the tank in wall (like it is now) or not.

In my ideal world, I would have the tank sticking out to add depth and another layer of viewing. This would look AWESOME! A dream for sure.

I highly doubt this design is possible without going crazy with renovations, but if the price is somewhat decent, I will totally have the tank look like this!

Aren’t you a teenager? Better check with your parents before you start major renovations. :)
Lol! Imagine they come home and see the house under construction! We are in need of a renovation anyway!

I’m kidding of course! I’m almost 100% sure I’m keeping the tank “in wall” like it is now.

Lol, while I find that scene to be funny, they would probably not. :)

How much rock weight wise do you have here? I'm trying to figure out how that would look in a 210...
@JachPot

Here is the finished scape:

It weighs 108lbs. I purposely went minimal because I want room for corals to grow without overcrowding the tank. :)

I made the structure a bit taller because I measured it and the tallest point was only 14” tall. I felt like the heights were too similar and needed more focal points.

I’m very interested in knowing how much more weight I added to the scape. I’ll get a weight in now. :)
