Hey guys! I’m finally starting my build thread for my 10 month old reef tank lol.

So, I have a 29g reef. I do around 15% water change weekly. (This tank is running without a sump, no skimmer, and no dosing.) I have a mix of softies, zoas, lps, and sps.

29g Setup: (GO TO PAGE 3/Post #56 FOR UPDATED 75G SETUP)
  • Tank: 29g long
  • Sand: 30 pounds of white sand
  • Rock: 20 to 30 pounds of live rock
  • Lighting: Mars Aqua 165W running at 75% blues, 0% whites for 8 hours a day.
  • Stand: A granite top dresser from a bedroom set (I know right, but it looks nice lol)
  • Filtration: Seachem Tidal 75 filled with ceramic bioballs, fine and coarse sponges, and Seachem matrix
  • Heater: 100W heater (Don’t remember the brand), I also got a backup heater which is Eheim Jager
  • Flow: 2 of Hydor Koralia Nano 565gph (total gph: 1,130gph)
  • Lid: White eggcrate piece
Livestock in 29g: (need some recommendations!) (GO TO PAGE 3/Post #56 FOR UPDATED 75G SETUP)

  • 1 Ocellaris Clown (used to have 2, but removed 1 due to insane aggression whenever I have blue lights on, that was a surprise!)
  • Ruby Longfin Fairy Wrasse
  • Captive Bred Banggai Cardinal
  • Cleaner shrimp
  • Blood Fire Shrimp
  • Nassarius, ceriths, trochus, bubblebee snails
  • 1 Emerald crab
  • Sherman Rose Bubble Tip Anemone
  • Rock Flower Anemone
Corals in 29g: (GO TO PAGE 3/Post #56 FOR UPDATED 75G SETUP)

  • Leather Toadstool
  • Tree Coral
  • Green Pacific Ricordea Mushroom
  • Orange Ricordea Mushroom
  • 2 frags of Green Star Polyps
  • Xenia
  • WWC Purple Monsters zoas
  • Green Flowerpot
  • Hollywood Stunner Chalice
  • Pandora zoas
  • Venus Flytrap palythoas
  • Green Hammer
  • Alveopora
  • TSA Bam Bam zoas
  • TSA Magma Flow Echinata
  • Hairy Mushroom
  • Montipora Digitata sps
  • Unknown Orange zoas
  • Nirvana zoas
  • Nightmares zoas
  • Green/red Blastomussa
  • Armor of God zoas
  • WWC Eagle Eye zoas
  • WWC Sweet Tooth zoas
  • WWC Scrambled Eggs zoas
  • WWC Space Queens zoas
  • WWC Fruit Loops zoas
  • Rasta zoas

Feel free to ask questions or comments about anything and I would also like some recommendations for livestock.

Amazing looking tank! Goes to show you don’t need really expensive equipment .
Thank you very much! That’s what I wanted to prove others that you do not need expensive equipment to be successful!

Update: Got some nice zoas from @WWC! I will give them some time to fully open up. I also picked up a blasto and a zoa frag from my LFS. Let me know if I should change anything or just leave it! :D

Wondering if anyone have suggestions for fish? I have a clownfish and a ruby longfin fairy wrasse as of right now. (I don’t want to get another clownfish because I had bad experiences twice)

awesome dude!!

how big was that anemone when you got it? that thing is insane
Haha, I also can’t believe it myself! I got it when it was like 5“ 3 months ago and now it’s already 8“ to 9“ big just by feeding a small piece of raw shrimp once a week. :)
