Hello all,

Here is my 3 month update on my Redsea E-260 softie reef tank. Tank is doing well all in all. Basic stats:

Redsea Max E-260
Aquafuge 2 HOB fuge

Total 72 gallons

Dual returns with 8 different outflows via locline powered by 2 sicce 750gph pumps

Stock Redsea S600 skimmer on timer goes on for 30 min periods 8 times daily

Media rack has 2 6 oz. packs of GAC and an 11 oz. pack of Chemipure Blue

Refugium has 1lb reefrock fragments and chaeto lit via tunze refugium led light

1 redsea reefwave gyre

Redsea Reef 90 LED's with controller

Have a 10G ATO tank under stand with Duetto ATO system. Above tank in corner I have a 3G tank filled with Kalkwasser continuously dripped into display.

Tunze Aquawind installed on side of tank to cool tank as well as increase evaporation to counter the continuous Kalkwasser drip.

On side of tank I have 5 different monitors with probes. All are American Marine digital monitors for PH, Salinity, Alkalinity, Calcium, and Nitrates. (Considering on soon getting that Seneye Reef system with wifi to monitor all perameters when away from home)

I have finnex universal controller with 2 100W finnex heaters connected. The unit has its own temp probe with hi/lo temp alarms and auto shutoff if temp reaches the high limit you set.

Tank perameters:

PH - 8.1-8.3
Alk - 10-11
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 1-3
Phosphate - <1ppm
Calcium 350-400ppm

1 Green devils hand
17 individual ricordea shroom frags
14 paly & zoa frags
1 Aussie paly colony

Maintenance

1 10G WC
Test all perameters

QUARTERLY

8 Month update. Not many new changes. Lots of bio-diversity happening. Different algae, snails, tube worms, baby stars all reproducing. Added 1 clown and a few toadstool and some sinulara. Rocks aren't bare anymore. Coralline growing along with some form of algae that grows in vine like structure around rockwork. Lots of different tube worms as well.

Happy Middle of the Year!

We wanted to reach out to ask if you would consider sharing a mid-year update of your reef tank and tell us how it's doing? Good or bad tell us how it's going and share a photo as well!

Here is the thread:

Mid-Year tank progress! Let's see your growth!

Its Mid year and we have seen many members at the beginning of the year acquire new fish, new coral(s) and even a new tank. By now, you have experienced tank maturity and even growth in both fish and coral. What changes have you seen since that acquisition? Tell us and post photos! We'd love...

Thanks and have a great weekend!

PS. Here is an update from R2R member @Reefer Matt! Great job Matt!

Hello everyone!. Its going to be a painful post but I'm sure some of you can relate. My Redsea reefer 260 was going along great thru 2021 until mother nature turned my life upside down.
The tank itself was a softie tank with a deep water reef simulation via 2 Redsea 90 wat LED fixtures. Had dual returns with Sicce pumps about 1500 GPH. Each return had dual splitters via loc-line giving 2 flow points to the front and 2 to the rear behind rockwork. I also had 2 reef wave pumps, one on each side of the tank. I had a standard RedSea skimmer along with a media rack where I ran some activated carbon and chemipure blue. I had a small hob refugium where I grew chaeto and rsised pods. I also dosed Kalk via a slow drip overnite.
The tank was running for 18 months perfectly until mother nature intervened in the form of Hurricane Ida. My basement ended up with nearly 4 feet of standing water and sewage which fried much of my electronics and the pressure cracked the frame of my RedSea 260. Luckily my small Honda generator was able to keep a powerhead and a heater going. Thank you to the members who took my fish and a few corals along with my LFS that went over and beyond to help me. Despite the situation all my fish and inverts survived along with most of my corals.
I love this hobby so I had soon after this set up a cheap 1 gallon pico tank that is doing well. See pics below on my pico.
This brings us to today. After two years of repairs and home infrastructure upgrades, I am beginning the planning of my dream tank. The sadness of losing my tank has hurt. I am finally getting up the courage to tell this story and move forward. I also need some plumbing advice.
I have started the planning of the dream tank. It is a 75 gallon sumpless system with near full automation via the Apex, the Trident, FMM modules monitoring pumps, flow, and leaks. I will also have several Neptune DOS pumps for automatic water-changes, 2 part dosing, and supplements. I intend on a Tunze Wavebox in one corner along with 2 Tunze Comline Filters on opposite corners stashed with Polyfilter, Chemipure blue, and different grades of floss. I will have a Tunze Comline Skimmer in the other corner with a drain to a 5 gallon bucket where the Trident waste-line will also connect. All of these will be connected to the Apex via the Tunze pump controller cables to the Apex converter modules. Lighting will be from 2 Reefbreeders LED units mounted over the tank. I have 2 3/4 inch Seaswirl units I will run on each end connected to Sicce pumps with flow monitoring to a separate FMM module to the Apex . One side will run to a UV sterilizer and return to the tank. The other will run to a Clear Water V2 algae scrubber and then back to the tank. I have a BRS 100GPD RODI unit already plumbed into the wall of my utility room with pipes running under where the tank will be. I also pre-built the drain line for the water change DOS unit into the wall and connected it to the slop-sink in the utility room to enable complete automated water changes via the Apex. I also ran a new dedicated 20 amp line from my breaker so my equipment will have its own dedicated line.
The custom stand/bar that I am constructing will have metal legs 4 feet up and a bartop on one side. The tank will be set up as a peninsula with dual side viewing with a bartop, counter extension and 2 stools under the bartop extension for ultimate relaxed viewing. The stand will be 4 feet high and 6 feet long giving easy viewing and allowing me to store 2 55 gallon cans on rolling dollies on the other side of the stand. These will be for RODI water and make-up water with a door to access and hide them from plain site. All electronics will be either 4 feet off the ground on the stand or 5 feet up on the wall so I no longer have to worry about water frying equipment.
I NEED YOUR HELP! Any advice on how to plumb the Clearwater V2 scrubber. I have limited height clearance in my basement. Since my stand/bar will be very tall, I will be unable to use gravity to feed the drain on the scrubber back to the Seaswirl. Can I use an additional inline pump to feed water from the drain of the scrubber back to the Seaswirl return to the tank? How do I calculate the head pressure etc. I was thinking so long as the head pressure is the same distance (aka the pump in the tank is at the same level as the pump from the drain on the scrubber and both have the same GPH rating) then theoretically this would work. Thoughts ideas and input welcomed.
Thank you to the many who helped and took in my family members in my time of need. You know who you are and thank you again!
