Yes! I generally have to sacrifice the look I really want and turn the lights down to mitigate the algae growth. I really wish there was another compromise but most other fixes are temporary.DAILY QUESTION: Have you ever experienced issues with algae growth due to lighting, and how did you solve them?
It isn't one coral, it is a collection that is my dream. I'd love to have a large tank full of almost nothing but gonis in it.DAILY QUESTION: What’s your dream coral?
I had a goni that was struggling when I got it and only had a few polyps to begin with, thought for sure it would eventually die as it was almost white and only had a very small amount of luminescence to it. Over the course of two weeks it gained it's color back and it had more polyps in the first week of it bouncing back than it did when I got it. That thing just would not die.DAILY QUESTION: What’s the best coral growth success story you’ve had?
I would much rather have dimming as opposed to not having it, but I can't say it is worth the price tag of some lights just for that single feature.DAILY QUESTION: How important is dimming control for your reef tank lighting setup?
I currently have one tank with supplemental lighting and it has Reefbreeders Photon V2's in the 48", two across an 8ft tank along with the light bars from RB, one on each side.DAILY QUESTION: Do you currently use supplemental lighting, and if so, what’s your setup?
I'm not sure it's really underrated, but the benefit of high-quality lights in my opinion is just the ability to control the colors individually and customize them to get the look you want and maximize par.DAILY QUESTION: What do you think is the most underrated benefit of high-quality reef lighting?
I'm running a couple of reefs right now. There is the 90 that houses all of the euphyllia, gonis, acro - all of my expensive pieces, until the 180 frag tank is ready which already has a lot of zoas, plates, lobos, and other odds and ends. I would describe it as a fully mixed reef that is split between two tanks.DAILY QUESTION: What kind of reef are you currently running? How would you describe it?
I generally have sections in my tanks that house each kind of coral and then set the lights to their needs. My frag tank has multiple Kessils that I can change per quadrant to bring the par up or down.DAILY QUESTION: How do you currently decide the placement of your corals based on lighting needs?
I suppose I need to buy stronger lights but usually my challenge in achieving perfect lighting is either the lights not being strong enough, or the algae that comes from having them turned up too much.DAILY QUESTION: What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to achieving the perfect light spectrum for your tank?
The most vibrant coral I've seen is the Holy Grail Torch and I've seen it under multiple kinds of lights.DAILY QUESTION: What’s the most vibrant coral you’ve ever seen, and what kind of lighting was it under?
My Orphek Atlantik ticks all the boxes. I think I love the Clouds feature the best. That way I don't have to program a Saxby-esque schedule myself![]()
DAILY QUESTION: What’s your top priority: coral growth, color, or ease of use when it comes to lighting?
I have some of several different kind/brand of lights and the one thing I wish they had is more programs to choose from in regards to schedules and settings.DAILY QUESTION: What’s one feature you wish your current reef lights had? OR if your current lighting ticks all the boxes, what's your favorite feature?
I wish there were more economical options for lights that have all the features.DAILY QUESTION: What would you like to change about your current lighting? Or what do you like most about your current lighting?
The spread is always the first thing I look at.I swear I'm gonna get better at posting these...
DAILY QUESTION: What’s the most important feature you look for in an LED light for your reef tank?
Color and growth.DAILY QUESTION: What’s your top priority: coral growth, color, or ease of use when it comes to lighting?
