So my wife loves her puffer fish, and I have never added one because of the whole reef safe thing. I go back and forth on possibly adding a toby, anybody have experience with them? I not so worried about my CUC, if they get taken out that's fine but I don't want to walk into a coral blood bath one day.

Would love to give you some insight as I have owned every kind of puffer available. However, only in FOWLRs so, basically, I'm of no use, as usual. But I am kind of handsome! Lol...

I hope to do a large FOWLR one day so we can get her a big puffer and I want a emperor angel at some point.

There are many folks who have had good experiences with Imperators in larger reefs (180+g). Just ask @fabutahoun

I do. I don't have it in a reef tank. I would but I would have a back up plan.

Hope this helps
Anything helps at this point, but with everything I have read it seems to come down to the individual fish. I think the option I may go with is add one to the lowboy I am about to convert from frag to lagoon. It's only 50 gallons but has a big footprint. However I think I may go saddle back, the blue dot and another toby seem to have a reputation for jumping. That could be a problem in a lagoon with no cover.

That is a stunning fish, I will own one at some point in my life. I currently have a 180 fish only freshwater. The plan is let the fish in there live out their lives and then convert to fish only saltwater. However I may upgrade it to a 210 or whatever size I can fit in the 6' long footprint. I need one of those and a sailfin tang in my life when it happens.

It's a shame you have to stick to a 6' footprint. If you're going FOWLR, you'll quickly find out how fast a 6' becomes too small.

I don't doubt this but we built some massive shelving around the 180 and would like any future tank to fit into that footprint.

I love the shelving and that big tank! That's a great setup, Matt!

That looks awesome!!!

Thanks, we will probably end up adding some between the two side above the tank but we haven't decided yet. There is also talks of replacing the 180 with an amphibious 160 kind of like this. If so it would end up being about 8' tall and there would be no room for it.
