Nyos Quantum skimmer, 160, cleaned it with citric acid, had loads of micro bubbles but I’m still getting them a month later.

Any ideas what I can do?

Hello

There is another thread going now, same thing. I mentioned in that thread I have a Nyos when they first came out. Could never get it tuned and left it running as an aerator for years. I finally gave it another try and got it tuned I . There’s lots of threads to search with people having same issues and lots of solutions

My first thought would be water level the skimmer is in. Then go from there.

Appreciate the response.

I don’t have an issue with getting it dialled in, I can make it skim wet or dry. I just have an issue with micro bubbles being constantly pulled in to the display tank.

That is weird. I know exactly what you are saying. I treated with chemi clean and similar happened to me. Skimmer worked fine but the bubbles were below the water line. I left mine alone and eventually it stopped after about a week. It should have stopped by now.

Have you run thru to make sure the air lines and intakes and pumps are connected. That is the on.y other thing I can think is air is being drawn in from somewhere

Yes I’ve taken it out again and double checked all the connections.

I have increased the turnover in the tank to about 4000L per hour but even if I drop it back down overnight the bubbles are still there.

2 things I noticed.

Is there any foam or other media in the bubble trap baffle to catch those bubbles before the went into the pump. And how deep is the skimmer in water? 7-8 inches is usually best, the level should be right around the O in Nyos.

It sits about 8.5 inch in the water but I’ve had t running fine before.

There is no media in the bubble trap. Don’t want it blocking up the flow.

Sorry, I meant just at the Purple Q on the skimmer.

If it’s not working like it was before I would try raising it with a dyi skimmer stand or other item that can raise it. It will need some tuning after raising .

With the water level high you are reducing the surface are for bubbles to form and forcing the bubbles up thru more water. If the water is lower where the cone is bigger it has more surface areas and the bubbles aren’t fighting thru to the higher water level before they are released. Basically lowering it will reduce the restriction on the bubbles.

Also I would suggest getting a coarse foam pad. The bubble trap is there to keep the skimmers section level constant but also to catch bubbles. Most large stuff will be trapped in your first chamber. And it makes a good pod hotel. I cleaned mine 1 every few months but never clogged. Even if it clogs the water will just end up spilling over the baffle until you clean it

May have a leak. Tighten all areas and use plumbers tape

I have had nothing but issues with my NYOS 220. I can say this, it did stop creating micro-bubbles after about 4 days, but the performance is all over the place. One minute it's skimming, next is overflowing. Water level was always the same, and no changes to the tank, so not sure what is up with it. I plan to sell it, and move on, as it's been a month, and it simply can't get it to play nice with me. :(

My frustration is that it’s worked fine for ages and now it’s suddenly started playing up.

I’ve tried low flow rates 3-4x tank turn over and even had it on a stand and it’s still making micro bubbles.

Has anyone had experience running the Nyos Quantum in a high turnover system with lots of flow?

Got the skimmer on a stand, got some sponge in the bubble trap. The flow in the sump is low. Still getting bubbles.
