Hello everyone,
I am getting ready to set up a 40 gallon breeder tank. I currently have a 20 high and a 20 long; both of these tanks will be broken down and put into the 40 gallon breeder after it has cycled. I will be building a stand and canopy with a friend of mine for the new tank. Let’s go ahead and get to the good part, the equipment:

2x 150w Fishneedit Metal halides (Bulbs will be 14k Pheonix bulbs)
2x 12w Panorama LED 453nm modules
2x Drs. Foster and Smith HOB filters with surface skimmers
1x Vortech MP10 powerhead
2x Koralia 1 (maybe one depending on the flow that the vortech puts out)

I am going to be building my own stand and canopy with a friend of mine! The stand is almost done, but I forgot to take pictures last weekend when I was at his house. Do you guys think that 5 inches
off the water’s surface is too close for the halides?

Here are some pictures:

Sounds like a great start! Looking forward to more of this. :) I love my 40Br! I have two MP10's, it definitely does the job well.

Looking good.. 40 is a nice size. 5" should be ok depending on what you want to keep. 40 breeders are very shallow.

I'm thinking 5 inches is pretty shallow.. I would add at least two inches, maybe three.

I don't think I'm going to be able to make a canopy for this tank because making it 9-10" would look very odd. I think I will just be hanging the lights from the ceiling.

I figured out what I will be doing after looking at a few tanks. I am going to make a wooden book that will hide the lights. It will be about 5" tall and instead of having it sit on the tank I will suspend it from the ceiling
