Hello everyone, I entered into a contest and I had won a $650 gift certificate to liveaquaria. Super excited about this but at the same time I am not to sure on what to purchase. So I want some ideas and please note that my stocking list bellow have been together for a long time now and some will break the comparability rules and I have been very successful. I will also post a picture of the tank (6 FT x 4ft) and aquascaping and here is my stocking list:

Vlamingi tang
Regal tang
Stripped Bristol tooth tang
Moorish Idol
Annularus angelfish
Niger triggerfish
Male Coral cat shark
2 gold stripped maroon clownfish, very large
2 mandarin gobies
2 lyretail anthias female
Lawnmower blenny
Coral beauty angelfish
Bird wrasse

Any other ideas of what I can include except for a yellow tang?

I personally like a big group of anthias. I have 10 lyretails and 3 blotched in my 450. Not sure how the mandarins will do with those more aggressive fish but i have no experience with them.

How about some kind of butterfly? Or one of the powder blue/brown hybrid tangs? Maybe a parrotfish? Moray eel? Funny you mention no yellow tangs. I'm not a fan of them. They're boring--just bright yellow. Multi-colored fish are so much more interesting.

Well I thought now why for the price of a yellow I should just get a purple and butterfly’s are no good with sharks

So you think I can still introduce more female anthias and be fine, these 2 have been together for several years and I have tried adding more but they tend to not survive

THIS is why I joined R2R! In one post I have learned about three more types of tangs! Impressive amount of experience and knowledge on R2R.

I think your list is fine but for my 400 gallon I am leaning towards:

-3 Yellow tangs (which i already have in holding),
-powder blue tang,
-Sailfin tang,
-Hippo tang,
-2 of any of these (Caribbean blue tang, maculicep tang, white cheek tang, clown tang, Naso tang, hybrid tang,)

Smaller fish
Pair of clown,
5-6 - damsels or chromis
5-10 Lyretail anthias.

Free Willy
Great White Shark
Humpback Whale
Sea lions
And maybe half the titanic. You’ll probably still have room for some more sunken ships but you know you want to leave room for the fish to swim lol

If removing fish to QT isnt an option, which usually isnt, whats worked for me many times is having UV sterilizer, feeding more variety frozen foods (bloodworms, mysis, larrys, etc), and removing substrate, I dont add fish much since fish a get more territorial as time goes on. Few tanks ive had eventually would never seen ich again and like any patogen if it doesnt have weak host it will eventually disappear.

So far i have 6 tangs (3 yellow, 2 small purple tangs, and 1 hippo tang 3"), want to add one more tang like Powder or achilles but thats pretty much all i think my 400 gallon can support.

Nice thoughtful list! I probably add some anthias, clownfish, damsel, copperband, maybe a reefsafe angelfish pair. I love wrasses but since I am BB I wouldnt do that to a fish.

So in this process I have moved and got some new fish and got rid of some of the others. I know have a:
Red Sea sailfin tang
Hippo tang
Barienne tang
Vlamingi tang
Stripped Bristol tooth tang
Princess parrotfish
Harlequin tusk
Green bird wrasse
Lunar wrasse
Foxface
Guinefowl pufferfish
Zebra eel

I am still working on a emperor angelfish, scopas tang, purple tang, and maybe a butterfly or 2

Wonder what did you finally stock and how your tank looks like?

I am evaluating adding Copperband to my 240G tank with large hippo, yellow tang, tomini, purple tang, koi tang, large bicolor goat fish, bunch of reef safe wrasses ... and wondering how it will work out in my tank with Copperband being very peaceful ...

So it was great but I eventually sold the 400. I had a huge die off while I had Covid so I had sold the tank and got me a 5ft 180 gallon but I had
Foxface
Guinie fowl pufferfish
Hippo tang
Vlamingi
Sailfin
Purple
Stripped Bristol tooth
Black spot
Lunar wrasse
Harlequin tusk
Zebra morray
French angelfish
Bird wrasse

all of them were at least 6 in
