40B aka ‘The Corona-tine Tank’

This tank idea began in late 2019 and the build began around the 5th of January. My new BFF(name given by his wife, best fish friend), @rwreef, and I came up with several designs and many ideas. I even searched for a used tank of 75 or even 90 gallons. I ultimately decided to save money and go with a custom build. His engineering background and DIY abilities drove the build from computer design to construction! Check out the pics that show the build process. There are no pics available to show the amount of thought and discussion that occurred before, during, and even after the build! We learned much throughout that will help us on the next one. I will also include a list of my equipment.

Ghost Overflow w/2 in Bulkhead, x2 1” Drains
PVC piping 1” to sump, 3/4” return
DIY Sump (20g. tall Aqueon from Petco) w 2 Bubble Traps (Cut Glass)

Octo Reef Classic 110 Skimmer
Sicce Syncra 3.0 Return Pump

Tunze Osmolator ATO in 4.5g. Container
Maxspect Gyre XF350 (Just a bit oversized!)
Stand: All Pine-2x4, 1x6, 1x4; Stained and painted inside to waterproof.

Oh yeah...QT: Simple 10 gal. set up to hopefully eliminate fish loss in DT... Marineland HOB, Sponge Filter, Heater, DIY stand.

Great to see the progress pics! Very true, many hours of high level fishaneering..?! Took place in the workshop. Good times and many ideas worked out "exactly" as planned.

A little update on my ‘Corona-tine’ 40B just a few days shy of the one year mark. Pic shows my growth/development from June 2020 to today. I’m happy with individual coral growth as well as my current stock. Loving the reef/salt side of the aquarium hobby! Will say that I’ll attribute a lot of the growth to the addition of a hybrid T-5 (added 11/2020) to my Kessil a360x. Currently on a very slow increase of time the T-5 runs. Up to 3.5 hrs/day from 2 hrs/day to start. Also, dosing kalkwasser through ato has had a measurable positive impact. Check out a few pics! Thanks to my buddy @rwreef for several of these pics!
