New "mediocreef" begins at the top of page 23 or with this post.

I will try to keep this updated with links to the latest data.

Latest full tank shot is here.
Where I try to understand 3d printing starts here.
Newest additions here.
Latest test results
Fresh water shots.
Stock list.
I have a baby!
nonsense throughout pages 25 onward.

Begin old news:
Here is what I have for my first reef tank. it's been up since fall 2021ish.
- 40b tank
- 40ish pounds of crushes coral and live cultured sand
- 60ish pounds of dry rock
- fluval 207 filter
- coralife seascape light
- jbj wavemaker 500gph powerheads (will be bigger when the time comes)
- seeded with pods and starter bac.

current stocking:
- firefish
- green spot dragonet
- dwarf hawk fish
- springer damsel
- cuc: brittle stars, conch, various snails, cleaner shrimp, tuxedo urchin, maybe a peppermint shrimp and hermit crabs, at least one emerald crab.

I'm working on stocking with corals and fish, but i have a 15 starting as well and this whole thing is a lot on the budget.

You will need to put pods in or your dragonet will not make it. It is very hard to get them to eat anything else. Good luck.
Thanks. I seeded it and plan on adding more as time goes on. At present he is quite chunky and I'm adding plankton for the pod culture to eat.

Here are some pictures of the tank at the moment. You will notice that I grow algae well.

After about 2 hours of algae scrubbing and a 20% water change and slight rescape, I have added a new carpenter wrasse, moustache Gobi, and hawk fish. The hawk fish is still in a breeder box for the time being as I have a few more fish (my closest lfs had a Papuan tobi as of Sunday; they were closed yesterday) to add and he's an a** already.

Now for the big question on my mind, can and should I get a small tang? He'd be mostly for algae control and rehomed when he gets bigger, probably within a year or so.

It was a sad day the other day; the jawfish that got lucky hopping out of the qt tank into another one was not so lucky this week. It really is my fault, I filled the tank too full after a wc. I even thought "should I leave it a little low, no he's been good lately".

We are entering a season of stability now. The goal is nothing new for the tank till oct. Let's make sure algae is under control, coral and fish are growing well, and vacations see no casualties. Also let the budget recover...

A period of conscious stability is an awesome idea both for figuring out what will thrive and for the above! :D

My petco was bringing it today; they had trochus snails (I've never seen them there), a Valentini puffer, almost full grown, a large purple tang, rfas, some interesting corals. A far cry from their usual 25 clowns and maybe a lawnmower blenny.

I was good and only got CUC that I desperately need. Along with flea and tick meds, but that's for the dog not the reef.

Anyone have advice for the chalice, top left of the last picture, that is bleaching? I thought it could be stingers from the psammoma, top right, but it seems to be getting worse since the move.
