Hi all,

I just started cycling my 750 xxl (6 feet) and I am planning on 4x Radions xr30s mounted front to back. This should minimize shadowing over my SPS but! Will the lighting be too much for my LPS/Acans etc? Should I maybe go with 3 Radions instead?

Thanks.

Following along since I’m doing the exact same light setup over my 6ft tank.

I’m pretty confident that it will be fine for the LPS as long as it’s running a good profile. And you can always adjust the intensity to the response of the corals.

You will always crave the 4th light or more, but three will get you started. Lots of 750 SPS tanks out there w/radions.
I just installed 4 xr15's w/difusers on a 4' running 50% and am just over 200 par mid depth so you may be looking at more
than 4 for yours

I am putting 4 in Aquatic Life hybrid fixtures for my 8’ tank but my tank is only 20” front-to-back. I think 3 wide with hybrid fixtures or supplement with an LED strip on front and back will be plenty for a 750 though...... 4 is good if you mount them perpendicular I guess. Is that the plan?

I think it really depends on how you aquascape the tank. My Local fish store runs 3 on a 750 and it’s looking great. The Aquascape on their tank works well with the 3 lights.

On my 625 I have 3 and am considering a 4th. My aquascape could use a tad more light.

Yes my plan is to mount them front to back just like this setup in the below picture

Do 4 xr30s fit evenly mounted across back of new v3 750 with the larger overflow box? Seems if each are approx 14” apart the overflow box would interfere using the RMS arms. How wide is the overflow box? I am thinking of hanging with T5 hybrid as alternative.

Where did you hear that the new 750xxl has a larger overflow box? I have both older and newer 750xxl and haven't even checked.

Edited: I just checked and I have the Version 1 and Version 2 and they are the same. I didn't know they had a version 3 out already.

The latest v3 accommodates 2 drains and dual returns. Hopefully someone can provide measurements of new dimensions.

Well that figures. ;) I just recieved this tank 3 weeks ago. I guess the version 3 must have just started shipping since then.

I have the V3 750 XXL (with dual returns) and the overflow is 20” wide, 20 1/4” with the lid on it

If you're not going acro-heavy you'll be fine with 5x XR-15s. Especially if you're going with the new ones. XR-30s will be turned down to like 30% lol (waste IMO). That tank doesn't have enough depth (20in) front to back to warrant need for extra coverage in my opinion. I run a reefer 170 and one XR-15 Pro and have acros growing on racks on every pane of glass. The overlap from simply using multiple fixtures will provide plenty of coverage with your acro sweet spot right down the middle.

Shadowing isn’t a concern using XR15s on an SPS dominant? I find even using the XR30s horizontal is a problem

Who said sps/acro DOMINANT? My post was in relation to a mixed reef. If he wanted an acro forest, 4x XR30s would be a marginally better choice at almost twice the price. With the 15s just try to stay away from caps or at least put them at the bottom. Shadowing is always a concern but at what cost? You can add all kinds of supplements for shading with T5 being best value proposition and XHOs being a nice option too. How much clutter is acceptable above the tank? Money no issue?
