How are you going with the copper and in that size tank? How have you been able to get it to eat? Great build by the way! Sorry to hear all your losses.
The Chelmon rostratus is actually a lot more active than people say they are. He doesn’t care about the high flow that I have and eats like a pig! This is my favourite butterfly I’ve ever cared for, I seem to have really hit the lottery with copperbands as all 3 attempts are well and thrived in my tanks. As for how I got him eating, he ate aptaisia the first day in the tank and I used them to get him eating mysis (I fed the aptaisia and he would often eat from them).

Went to another LFS today, it’s part of a not so reputable chain but this specific store was a lot better than others in that chain. I nearly came home with a 1.5 inch angelfish, one of these guys as I found one for a VERY cheep price.

Space in the tank was my biggest reason, my other reasons were the Genicanthus angelfish in the tank and the tilefish I’m waiting for.

Oh I see, can’t wait till you get another tile fish!
can you tell me more about their care requirements and temperament from your past personal experience?

I found the flashing tilefish preferred the caves and bottom half of the tank, usually going to the top when it came to feeding. They WILL get out of any gap if they fit their head through it. They tend to be rather hard to get feeding at first but if they settle then they’ll eat quite quickly. As for tank mates, personally I wouldn’t do anything TOO aggressive, semi-aggressive would be the most aggressive I’d go with tank mates. Things like:
- Bristletooth tangs
- Percula Clownfish
- Small/Medium angelfish
Would be the most aggressive I’d personally go.
I’d say their temperament is peaceful, they will open their mouths if anyone goes near their cave though. So they can be pretty boisterous and hold their own but for the most part I would say they’re peaceful.

Im also looking forward to the day I lay my eyes on another Flasher and let me tell you, that day will be the day I get a new fish haha.

I was going through some old photos of my pets (taken from like 2009-2010), and found a ton of photos of my old 4’ Fresh Water tank aswell as one of my first reef tanks. Somehow I grew more coral back then than I can 12 years on.

Well, I wasn’t going to update this thread but it’s a rather big step I may aswell.
I got a new clam, Tridacna deresa for my Nano. We’re now into day 3 of having him and man the colours just continue to get better and better every day. Here he is this morning under the sun hitting him from the window.

Beautiful clam!
Thankyou! This isn’t a species I thought I’d own due to its larger size however I’m glad I grabbed this guy instead of one of the 3 croceas that was around it as the colours he’s got are amazing under white lights. In fact, if I can grow this guy then I’ll probably try a maxima and eventually lead into a crocea. I wanted the 4’ tank to have a clam as its centre piece in the rockwork and figured that a deresa would be a good attempt as I have seen some people have great success with a CBB and a deresa clam.

I love watching the wrasses as the lights dim. They all flash at eachother but don’t show any sign of stress. Purely just them sorting out the hierarchy. As for the clam, it’s going on 1 week now and shows excellent colours and mantle extension.

Well… I unfortunately lost a fish today, The Pinkstreak. I so far have it down to old age due to the colours being totally gone. The way I found him dead was by catching my Anemone Crab eating the remains. I had him for 1 year so I assume he was already rather old when I got him as a .25-.5” specimen
I loved this guy too much to put it into words… RIP stripey with a Mohawk…

Always sucks to loose them, especially to old age.

It’s weird, theres usually signs of old age but this guy showed nothing, ate and everything yesterday then today he just turns up flat out dead in the grasp of my Pom Pom crab with almost no colour.

Like your said above, color fade and general lethargy usually from my experience are what you see @ old age. Crazy that there was no signs, at least it made it to old age in captivity. So many ornamental fish never do.

Thanks, this makes me feel a bit better.
I wish I could’ve had him for longer than a year and a month (I got him March 21st, 2021).

Now just to figure out what to do… my zoom Pom is still eating his body and is right in the back of the nano so I cant get to it without tearing the tank down which I also can’t do in risk of a bigger spike…
