Luckily, it’s healed and just looks like a darker patch of pattern. Finally found something to keep myself busy though. Got 2 plates of wood as a desktop to try and paint. Gunna make one a Tahitian reef and the other a Tongan reef. Now just to find time in my days to do it!
I have the basic structure of the rocks drawn out and in pen, now adding some coral.

I’m tempted to take this to another level and making it have parts that come out of the picture.

Tried to get some of the wrasses to flash, unfortunately it failed (Had to take the mirror down early due to the tang tail slapping and attacking the glass). I didn’t expect this though!

The colours in him are beautiful! Wish he displayed them more often.

I was told a 4x2x2 was fine for those tangs (Ctenochaetus binotatus), is it the rockwork that’s the issue? Even LA says they can be kept in a tank with 70g

LA also says you only need 100g for a yellow tang.

rule of thumb, 6ft of swim room minimum for any happy tang and I’ve heard that from numerous people and read it on countless reliable sources.

Sorry about the double post, can’t figure out how to edit in another quote, but, has it ever even displayed its dorsal fin? That looks like a miserable fish, I really suggest getting a bigger tank or letting him go.

IMHO, this is for the larger tangs (Zebrasoma, Acanthurus, Paracanthurus, Prionurus ect).
The Ctenochaetus don’t need such a big tank IME, yes they are going to possibly do better in a 6’ tank but with the right requirements it’s not impossible in a 4’ tank. Another thing with this fish is how it’s a rather calm swimmer compared to the other genera, this is a paced fish and it doesn’t swim as fast.

It has displayed its dorsal fin, I rarely seem to get photos of it when it does this because of how they don’t swim with their dorsal or Anal fins wide open.
This is him when he isn’t displaying, I will add that when he shows the bright colours it’s often due to aggression. But every other time he’s “Dull” with the nice yellow tail. I have a few videos of him swimming so I’ll link one, he isn’t pacing or breathing heavy

Going to attempt a risky move, hoping the green beast doesn’t try kill it. In preparation for a Discordipinna griessingeri in my nano, I have to deal with the Golden Dwarf Boxer Shrimp. The plan is that he will go into the 4’ tank. I’m hoping if I do it before feeding then I can distract the Jade. I’ve attempted a Boxer Sheimp with a pair of Cleaner Shrimp before.
Hoping this manoeuvre goes well and doesn’t end in death.
The boxer is about 1.5 inch and I plan to put him in a cave that isn’t housed by shrimp or fish (Possibly just above the Tilefish’s cave).

Well, I say no updates because I wasn’t sure if it would be a good or bad one but it’s a good turn out!

So, the tilefish did another Houdini yesterday and managed to get out. Unfortunately it took a bit longer to get him since he landed in my Red Sea Test Kit box and almost everything was still in there. So I had to empty everything out and try get him out of the box that way, I got him out (Still within the minute mark) and put him into the tank. He flashed a bit then played dead but then went into his cave, came out to eat and then back in the cave. Then a power surge occurred, I have now seen it’s wiped out my ATO but luckily nothing else compared to how bad of a surge it was. So that may have stressed him a bit more, Today he didn’t come out for about 10 hours after he normally is out and happily in his cave. Just now he came out and is happily swimming at the entrance to the cave being the begger (Literally) he is. This fish is more than just a fighter!

Dang, I really want more tilefish. Wonder how many fish id have to trade in before having room for a nice group of different species (I think total of 3). Hmm… I never said about not picking favourites haha.

Wow, just read you had a few jumping experiences! No lid?
Funnily enough I do have a lid! He escaped a both times whilst lid was off, somehow recovered the next day and had no sign of stress or even jumping!

Crazy. Sounds like my long nose Hawkfish, he has a death sentence. Caught him both times hitting the floor when he jumped, one of the few still with me.
Wow, I know these fish do this in nature to distract predators but you’d think after the first time they wouldn’t use it as an escape route.

Ugh, can I leave it like this? They’re beautiful! And actually came out great, especially the klein’s butterfly! Now just to deal with an eel… man this will be hard
