Did you make a cement tank like Kingofdiy? Concrete with acrylic panels

Haha, I did not. Joey is a good guy. I had a couple old build threads on his DIYfishkeepers site a few years ago. He's how I learned to build acrylic tanks...I've said too much...

I'm really sorry about your entire ordeal, but can I say, if you ever decide to pursue a career in writing, I'd be the first to buy your book! This thread is easily one of the most entertaining things I've read on this site!

Hahahaha, My current career is a bit more lucrative than writing. Maybe when I retire. Thanks for the kind words!

M o r e . C o n t e n t . Like the dude said above this stuff is good

Thanks, glad you're enjoying it!

His 2000 is cement with Acrylic windows. His plywood builds are all with glass windows.
Wow I need to go find that now. You seem to be more familiar with him than just a youtube fan... I’ve heard some controversy related to some builds, any insight? Or am I just misreading?

I stopped following him once he shut down the forum and started selling his book. That was right around when he was finishing the 2000. I watched a handful of his acrylic building videos and a couple years ago he was really good at answering questions and giving advice. Not sure how things are now. I'm sure being a semi famous YouTuber is way more annoying and drama filled than it looks ;)

@Smarkow wow, just followed up. Yeah, lots of drama. People saying he doesn't build his tanks, stole his book ideas from around the web... All I know is he was pretty legit back in the day. I'd never want to make a career as a you tube star exactly because of this sort of petty drama.

But, I do remember why I stopped following him. I commented on his FB page about something he did and made a suggestion about how to make it better and his reply was, "you can tell me how to do my builds when you have a 2000g tank too." Or something like that. So maybe he has let it all go to his head.

Wow thanks, super interesting read. Especially for those of us who are not familiar with the freshwater (dark!) side :)

Thanks for sharing

This is a great thread.

I have tbought so much about this and how it could've worked because large aquariums use plexi windows. I came up with a solution. Have a rubber gasket made to go between plexi and outside wood tank. Drill holes through plexi-gasket-wood tank. These holes are countersunk in plexi. Use bolts to attach plexi to tank squeezing rubber gasket. Then make plexi plugs to go into the countersunk bolt holes. Encapsulating the bolts and protecting them from the water. Sure you could also use stainless, but idk if that's still safe longterm in saltwater.

Yeah, that would probably work too! But instead of plugs you could just back fill with SciGrip 40. I'm not sure you need a custom rubber gasket. As it was mentioned a couple posts ago, you could just use RTV, silcone, or the like and put in removable spacers. Then you've created a custom gasket. And once cured all you'd need to do was tighten the bolts and then back fill/plug the recessed bolt heads (I would not suggest backfilling and then tightening, you probably crack the acrylic from the torque on the bolt).

All versions of stainless will rust eventually in saltwater. Best bet is titanium, but you'd end up spending like $10/carriage bolt!

Maybe have an update tomorrow. COVID is kicking our butt right now because people are too stupid to just stay home or wear a mask.

But... my high school friends, neighbors Facebook post said that the crystal healers mention that a ancient herb specialist, met a holistic healer, and that person said I cannot get Covid because of my blood type...

Exactly. We ignore science at our own peril.
