So I finally got around to building the framework of my stand for my quarter round aqueon tank. Metalwork and plumbing are what I'm good at so unfortunately I still have the hard part to go. I am planning on using 3/4" furniture grade plywood top and bottom and skinning it with some sort of veneer in the front. I'm not sure how the front is going to work yet. Thinking about gluing magnets but I don't know how that would work on a curved veneer. Here's where I am so far.

Nice work. Looking forward to seeing it progress into another one of your beautiful tanks.

Oh, I also found a couple of companies that make convex cabinet doors to your specs (give them measurements) and plan on getting some quotes for 2 for the front. I made the base bigger than the tank to give me more options/room on sumps.

Ok, I couldn't stand it. I welded outriggers on it top and bottom for extra support on the lip of the tank where the wood would overhang the metal.

I ironed the veneer edging on and brushed and wiped a coat of stain. I'm having difficulty with ordering a set of convex doors as none of the ones contacted will not sell to a individual. They all want me to have my "cabinet maker" order them. May have to go the vertical slat route (pretty disappointed).

You might be able to skin it if you go with vertical slats. PIA, but it can be done.

The easiest way to do it would be to build a curved frame. Then cut a bunch of slits in luan vertically. Glue and clamp it to the frame.

I wish I had pictures of the same aquarium that I had done.

I did a canopy and stand that way and it worked perfectly.

You are about 3 hours from me or I would say throw the stand in the jeep and come on over and we would build it at my place.

I was thinking about this. You can actually curve plywood fairly easily. Might be an easier solution. I did some looking, there is a pretty good step by step How To Bend Plywood in 10 steps on Wikipedia.
