So it begins!!!! I was at the LFS with my wife. We were picking up a 7 gallon cube for my daughter’s birthday. I wanted to get her something better for her Betta. She is in college and I thought it would be nice for her new apartment.

All of the sudden, my wonderful wife turns to me and says “why don’t you get a tank for yourself?” Needless to say, I was floored! I started talking about the plants I could get and some freshwater fish. Without missing a beat she says “Don’t you want a reef tank? That would be really awesome.”

I have been out of the hobby for 30 years. I had a 70 gallon when I was in college. My Career got started and I had to move 1000 miles away. Needless to say, I sold the tank. With he career and beginning a new family, time was limited. I am just getting back into it. This time I plan to document as much as I can. The last time I was into reef keeping, I read many books. The internet wasn’t really a thing LOL.

I have been researching everyday here and I have learned so much more than I thought I would. My best way to explain it..... THINGS HAVE CHANGED[emoji23][emoji23]

Of course the tank had to be ordered. This was 4 weeks ago. It should be here next Friday. This is what I have been working on for the past few weeks!! Hope you all enjoy!!

I built the stand from scratch after contacting the manufacture for exact specs. It’s a Deep Blue 60 gallon reef ready cube.

Welcome to reef2reef :), you'll love it here. The stand looks solid, although I am no expert in woodworking
Must say you are a lucky man to have a wife who encourages and thinks about your hobby :0)

This one of the tanks I’m using for the SUMP. I will have two. A 20 high and a 29.

Welcome to R2R and your new reefing community. You've got some skills sir...this is going to look terrific.

I've moved this over to the members tank forum and this can be your build thread. Really great start.

Looks great. One quick comment...the water level in your sump looks pretty high. Not a problem by itself. Did you check to make sure you have adequate room for backflow from pump during power outage?

Yes. I did that today as well. There are two Sumps. The one you are referring to has two 1 inch drains to the lower sump. That is the one that fills when the power goes down.

Thanks for the heads up. I need all the advise I can get! [emoji2][emoji2]

This hobby is going to take some serious sleep from me!! Still at it. The family is sleeping but I’m so excited to work on the tank. The router is just a bit loud so I rigged a float value to prepare some water. Hoping to get some saltwater in the sump and the Refugium by Wednesday!!

The good thing is if you spend the time now setting it up right you can spend more time later enjoying it

The tank is a deep blue reef ready. It only has two holes for bulkheads. I want to do a Herbie overflow so I had to drill.
Nothing like drilling a hole in glass that took five week to get!!
