Hi guys,

So I'm having trouble in deciding my flow pumps for my new upcoming reef , It is a 24"*24" cube , bare bottom and will be full SPS .

Value is a concern of course, so I was wondering between 2x Gyre 350 , or a single MP40 , since I can get both these options for the same price.

Thank you a lot!

I’d go with the 2 Gyres, for placement in different areas of the tank. Spread-out placement + control functions should prove very versatile. (And you may not know, but if either Gyre seems too large for that size tank once you get them, they can be split in half and made physically smaller.) Again, you’d still have two rather than the one MP40. Those are my thoughts, anyway.

Yeah that's what I thought too, I'm afraid the Gyres will be too strong for a cube layout , a single MP40 will limit my flow options on eliminating dead spots as this should blast the bottom too . I think the 2 gyres would add a lot more turbulence in the middle too , if I'm not wrong

I had a 24”x24”x24” cube with heavy sps over 25 medium sized colonies. I had 1 mp40 and 3 mp10 until I added the last mp I still had some low flow areas. The shape of the tank made it hard to get good flow. once all the corals grew in. I’ve never used a gyre so I can’t comment on that.

Unfortunately I can’t find a picture of when the tank was fully grown in with the 4th mp but this was in the way there

I use two Red Sea Reefwave45 gyre set on random wave flow pattern. In my opinion they are great. It has two sides that are adjustable in different directions. So essentially with my 2 gyres I have 4 wave makers i can aim different directions. Between the two return nozzles and two gyres I have 0 dead spots in my 5ft x 2ft x 2ft tank.

Awesome Tank !! I even want a tang like that :D , so now I'm sure a single MP40 will not work hehe , thanks for your input! I think I might go with the gyres.

Btw, what light u had there?

Thank you! I'm more confident that the 2 gyres will be the best choice

It was a 250 watt radium in a Coralview lumen bright reflector with diy 2 t5 and 2 diy 15 watt Royal blue led canons. My wife called it the sun
