You will see no fish in this tank. I decided to let the new tank go fallow for 3 months with no fish. I had a bout of ich in old tank 1 year ago and lost a few fish. I haven't seen it on any of the surviving fish but I didn't want to take any chances. So I decided to go fish less while my remaining fish went though QT to be safe.

My QT tank setup is a 40 gallon tank I picked up cheap from a Petco. Decorations is a 3 in pvc pipe. Pretty simple setup. Just heater, aquaclear hang on filter with just foam filter. I keep a a seachem Ammonia Alert hanging in tank for safety. These things work great no need to do tests for Ammonia.

On my old tank I had an apex but did not use all it features. In the new tank I wanted to be able to see an issues from where no matter I am. Being able to setup email warnings was a life saver.

Loving the progression shots! There's nothing like watching someone's tank go from an empty glass box to an artfully put together in-home reef.

For Calcium and Alkalinity add I use a CR836 calcium reactor with a SMC618 secondary chamber. I control this with apex to C02 regulator on at 6.70 pH and off at 6.50 pH. It does a great job of keeping stable Alk. What is also nice is I have a warning setup to send me email if pH rises above 7.0. Than I know that C02 bottle needs changed.

The reactor is run off of my manifold and I use a graduated cylinder anytime I need to change ALk. I never mess with the c02 bubble count. I just take the graduated cylinder and collect a sample for 10 seconds. Right now I run 22 mls per 10 seconds through reactor.

I know there is a ton of debate out there about water changes. Should you do them ect.. I always figure they can not hurt so I added a DOS to my Apex to do continuous automatic water changes. I use DOS to remove and replace 2.5 gallons daily saltwater. The only time this is not running is when I need to mix more saltwater. I use FMM module with light sensor to stop DOS when level of fresh saltwater gets to bottom of container. Here is some pics of my saltwater and top off containers. I use float valve to keep autotop off container full which I use a tunze osmolator 3155. I also have a light sensor if float valve fails. T

here is a solenoid tied into RODI to shutoff flow as backup.

Since I use a calcium reactor my pH tends to stay at the low end but is very stable. Does not seem to have any effect on coral growth.

So what made you choose the Kessils over, say, Radions? I saw you said they were responsive to emails and you can control with Apex..can you not control Radions with Apex? (Trying to decide what lights I want to get for my first tank)

No I do not believe you can control Radions with apex.
