Hey everyone! I'm starting this tank build thread so I can not only show all of you the progress or non progress I have made with the tank but, for me to look back on the progress myself. Thanks in advance for all constructive criticisms y'all may have to help improve my knowledge of this great hobby. Feel free to ask any questions about the tank as well. I was Originally only going to do a FOWLR tank but I had a friend give me some coral for free and i was hooked. so I will add more Photos of my tank as I get the free time but to start ill post these two here. The first Picture is the night I found my tank off Facebook marketplace and you might notice it matched my already established freshwater tank in the room. this was the only way I talked my wife into letting me get another tank in the living room. Haha

This Picture was taken after I scored almost 75lbs of free live rock from my lfs who got it from someone who was getting rid of there tank. It was Covered in every pest out there. So I took the time to bleach wash it and let it dry. This was my first attempt at a Saltwater aquascape. As you can see in the pic I was running a aquaclear HOB filter and a Coral life HOB protein skimmer. The tank also had two sun sun power heads and is running a Nicrew LED light I took off my 75 gallon freshwater tank. I upgraded some of this equipment and will post more pics soon.

Looks good, I really like the caves and ledges. You might want to take your cleaning tools and do a practice run on the glass on the sides. It looks like your rock is pretty close. Have you thought about breaking your scape up into two structures?

right now the tank is stocked with two Ocellaris clownfish, a yellow Watchman goby, a purple fire fish, 10 hermit crabs, 3 Nassarius Snails, a fire shrimp, and cleaner shrimp. I will slowly add more fish and inverts. I’m interested in a Midas Blenny, tail spot blenny, McCosker flasher wrasse, a pistol shrimp for my watchmen goby, and a yellow eye kole tang.. and tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Looks great. I started my first reef about a year and a half ago. Took my 75 discus tank and converted over to a reef. It has been so much fun.

Nice job reworking the scape. I made a rookie mistake and scaped my tank a little tall.

Following along
I kept my fresh water it’s still fun but I have found myself neglecting it a bit so I’m going to have to learn to balance the two.

Ya when I switched I still had my 65 planted going which was for my son. He lost interest so I decided to sell off all the rainbow fish and break it down.

Hey you need anything? Lol. Still have the tank and all the equipment I'm trying to find a home for

The reef is really going to grab your attention once you get passed the uglies and it gets rolling. It's always a process. I recently had a bout with some algae and cyano after about a year and a half. Was able to beat it with just getting things balanced and some bacterial additives and not having to go the chemical route.

One thing that I have loved about the reef is that we have so much at our disposal that only water changes can account for in the FW world. I loved my discus but changing tons of water every other day got old after awhile

I have a tinkering problem but I think I found a scape that looks pleasing to me ... I removed 4 rocks because it was over crowded and dang I guess all that algae is why they call it the ugly phase lol didn’t know it was that bad till I turned the light on full power to rescape

looks real good . I'm always happy to see a fellow 75 gallon reefer here. I have 2 75 gallon tanks 1 is a mixed reef the other is fowlr. The fowlr is empty since my eel had passed so i'm looking to add some fish to it to get it back up with some life.
