My 75g is up and running. I spent today getting the apex el setup and cable management.
Equipment:
2-xr15 blues
40b diy sump
hydor 1600 return pump on setting 3
eshopps drilled overflow with 1/2 inch extension glued to the top of the overflow on back of tank to help stop the waterfall effect (can run water higher)
2-aquatop 300w titanium heaters
2-Nero 3s running random upto 55% and 35% overnight
tunze ato (not hooked up yet)

salinity-1.023
ph- 88.24
temp set for 77 (still getting upto temp)

the overflow is driving me crazy trying to get it to stay steady. It randomly increases flow and drops down to the middle of the behind the tank box, creating a ton of noise and when the power heads ramped up it made the overflow super loud also. I run the drain trickling into the emergency, except for when it randomly drops. What would cause this?

still have to make lids for the sump and my ato reservoir, build bracket and hang lights and build screen lid. Oh ya and start my cycle

Best I could get. I put the angled pvc in it to direct flow away from the drain. It would create a whirlpool effect before. If you need more light and/or better pic, just let me know.

the whirlpool comment makes sense, the siphon isn’t working correctly. At a guess, the siphon outlet is too far under water to purge air so you get a bubble growing in the pipe, restricting flow until it gets partially pushed out and drains the overflow box.

Put the outlet of the siphon 1/2” or less below the surface in the sump. Then readjust the siphon until you get the level you want in the box without anything going down the emergency. See if that helps.

I was checking flow now that it is all setup with the rock in it and it seemed a little weak so I kissed it up a notch. Low and behold it seems more stable. What you say makes sense. I’m about 1” to 3/4” now. Maybe the extra flow provided enough force to kick out any extra air. thanks for the insight.
