I haven't done anything with 80/20 yet myself. I recently heard someone discussing these guys. Not sure if pricing is competitive to what you get eslewhere but figured its at least another option for you to look into.

The guys at Framing Tech were ridiculously helpful. They helped me so much. They also provided some simple magnetic doors I'll use to hide gear.

p.s This pic is missing some endcaps and the magnet mounts. I'll source plywood + foam locally.

@HolisticBear - Looks great! Good to hear they went above and beyond for you. Definitely want to see it wrapped as I’d need them to provide it all due to my lack of carpentry skills ;)

This is the PDF they generate for you (after you give them specs). I went with simple 1/4 black plastic HDPE doors with magnets. My thought is that covers the equipment for now and in my leisure I'll investigate more interesting options and re-use the same magnet mounts (custom colored or clear panels, wood veneer, or cabinet door)

How are the feet attached? Like them but worried about load. I did a similare design but added gussets for shearing

I too wanted to share my experience with Framing Tech. Worked with Anthony B. through many revisions as I guess I was both anal and undecided. He provided multiple drawings and ran load simulations without skipping a beat. Finally ordered and received at beginning of August, all super strong stuff. I haven't assembled but will provide pictures once summer is over and my family from Europe leaves.

Here are a few pics of the finalized drawings I have agreed/ordered based on.

drtrash nice looking stand. I like these stands looks like I can now get Red Sea Nano up and running, what I like are the options, I want a bigger stand then the tank so that I have all the room under the stand to hide everything. So probably a 36 x 24 x height, all the room for a sump and then some. Yeah choices.

I am assuming by inset, you mean you do not want doors/panels mounted on the outside of the extrusions. I wanted my side and back panels to be removable and flush mounted. I have magnets mounted inset so that the panels mount flush. You can't mount doors or panels flush if you use gussets.

Here is picture of the side and back showing the flush mounted panels.
I am trying to do this exact same thing! Can you please share in more detail your setup? What type of magnets? What type of panels? How did you mount it all? Thank you!

I think I'm going to go with 80/20 T-Slot Aluminum for my 120 gallon tank stand.
I've browsed the internet and found a W-I-D-E range of prices, so I thought I would reach out to the members here who've actually had stands made by various Vendors.
*** Please share any 80/20 Vendors that have provided you with a good quality product, great customer service, and a price that was reasonable ***

Thanks !
Watch eakbay for cutoffs. New material that has been part of a large order of pieces cut to length. 1/4 the price for the exact same stuff. I have found lots of designs for tank stands are based off of 2ft lengths which is also a common cutoff length

Hi, I am looking to do the same, but trying not to do central pillars, can you post pictures of the final stand with the panels?

Seeing that this is some time that you have had the stand. What is your view re 80 20 for stands?

How did this hold up to the salt and weight?

I’m looking to build a stand that’s 96x24x36 out of aluminum. Framingtech has one for $1250. Would it be less if I went with the 80/20 T Slot solution.are there cheaper options out there for aluminum stands?

I suspect this depends on local pricing, in South Africa it seams to work out more expensive, but I still am going that route as I think the flexibility and luxury of changing my mind in the future makes it worth the small premium.

It is however quite involved, but fining the suppliers very good at helping with "parts" recommendation and design recommendations.

The scary bit is "cutting to length" bit, very "final" once ordered.

I too am in the process of ordering/building an aluminum stand. To the guys that have had their stands built: What hardware is being used to hold the extrusions together? Was going to source everything myself. But I have no idea which anchors/fasteners to order that will support the weight. Pics of what was used in your stands? Thanks.

This is what is used on my stand.

It requires machining a hole to drop in the anchor. They machine it in-hose but also sell a jig if you want to attack it yourself. They are stronger than other methods in that they are integrated. There are other methods and you can also use gussets.

have fun..

Thanks, but I think I'm going to avoid the hassle and just order direct through framingtech. I was waiting on a couple more quotes, but a couple companies never got back to me. Maybe they thought I wasn't serious because I asked a lot of questions. Maybe my next stand I'll know exactly what to order on my own.

I ordered through Framing Tech just the other week. When 80/20 still had a store on ebay I was going to attempt to assemble myself. In the end when I had the parts in the cart and was going to pay shipping it was only saving a few hundred bucks, so I let FT handle it.
