I have only ever had one mantis shrimp. And he was a surprise. They are very tough suckers. I had rock shipped in wrapped in wet news paper back to the late 80s or early 90s. Back then it was recommended you dip your rock in fresh water for 20 minutes to help with pests. I put my rock in a 300 gallon tank things had been running about a year and a half or so. One night I lost a blue hippo tang that was about as big as my hand. Then a clown. To shorten this story I had a mantis shrimp, pretty guy but he cost me a fortune and I had to break my rock to get him out. They might be good in a small tank by themselves
