Well, this was a long time coming. I Got a RedSea Max Nano 75L 20 Gallon around 2 months ago for Christmas. I just now got around to setting it up since I've been busy cleaning my apartment, making space for the tank and finally getting Christmas decorations and a Christmas tree out of my apartment. The Setup was well, interesting to say the least. I finished building the stand and realized the top and bottom pieces were on the wrong side. So I had to backtrack through the tank stand, take some side panels off and put the parts on the right side this time. Eventually, I got the stand built after around 2 hours or so of disappointment but satisfaction when I finally got it built haha. Now was time to get the tank out of the box and set it on top of the stand. Got the tank on the stand, got everything put together for the tank, powered it up, and it worked with no issues. I thought at least something was going to happen with me setting up the stand wrong but to my surprise, it went smoothly getting the actual tank set up. So I got everything set up and ready to go, but I had a few questions before I start putting stuff in there. My first question is what is some dry rock that you would recommend I get? Also, I plan on getting a RODI that way I don't have to go to my fish store to get water every time I need to top it off or do water changes, I am wondering what is the RODI I should get for my tank that isn't going to break the bank haha. This is just the start of this build and as time goes on this will get updated with more progress and eventually aquatic life swimming around in the tank. Thanks, Everyone to the Reef2Reef community for being awesome, helpful towards those that don't know a whole lot, and providing a lot of insight on various aspects of the hobby!

A RODI filter is easy to justify bc it pays for itself in a few months. I got the 5 stage bc my local water has chlorine/chloramines in it, and that's primarily what you'd likely look to filter out. Set up a little area with a garbage can and just use that as a mixing station - I can't believe I even did it any other way for so long.

As far as dry rock - just get whatever you think looks good. I'd even check Craigslist for anyone breaking down their tank. I've seen people around here selling live rock from their tank for $3/pound.

Good luck!

Any tank updates?
None currently, still trying to get some stuff ordered but might have to hold off on doing it since I'm going to be out of town the next couple of weeks, might get a couple of things ordered this weekend before I head out.

Well it’s been a while on an update. I’ve been busy traveling out of town, getting prepped to be in a friends wedding and going out of town again haha. I was able to get some rock ordered from the guys over at Caribsea. I ordered two of the nano kits 15lbs, I just wanted be sure I had enough rock to be able to do a cool design for the tank

Came with a lot more rock than I was thinking but super excited to get it put in my tank. I’m still in the process of getting a RODI unit ordered that way I don’t have to keep luging water from the fish store that’s like 15 minutes away.
I was able to get a few aqua scape designs done, just to get an idea of what I want to do since I’ve never done a scale before haha

That’s really all I got for updates as of now. Once I get the sand and water in my tank I’ll post some more updates!!!

Sounds like a cool build I'm tuned in! The CS life rock looks great...im getting ready to order a box of arches and shelf rock. What RODI are you going with? I'm brand new to reef keeping and I'm not sure if I should splurge on the BRS 5 stage or go the cheaper route with a LiquaStage 5 Gen from Amazon for $170:thinking-face:

Probably going to get the 4 Stage Value 75GPD or 100GPD off BRS. Honestly I am wondering if I should go the Amazon route too haha

I think you should get the Value Plus. Very much worth it IMO.

I’ve got a tight budget so I might have to go the cheaper route lol I just saw the regular BRS 4 Stage 75 GPD is $172.99 but idk if that’s good enough for my Oklahoma City water

Luv the RedSea Max Nano! Following along and looking forward to see where you take it. If you haven't pulled the trigger on an RODI yet be sure to check your water company's site for the chemicals they use to treat the water. After checking our we ended up getting a 7 Stage from BRS during one of their sales. No regrets.
