I was told nanno would outcompete other phyto but the tetra and nanno seperated and both have darkened up. Could it be contamination?

Possibly. Are you keeping it cold or refrigerating ?

It looks like you may have two issues.
First, the culture looks way too dense. Meaning it either went too long, was started too dense, or other reason that only you may know. Second, I would not suggest placing multiple species in the same culture. I think most would agree with that suggestion. I think I would discard that. Start with a single species, and be judicious with your starting density and timeline. Also refrain from over-fertilizing; more is not better. Good luck.

Its in a room thats unheated and I'm in canada so its pretty cold ill have to actually measure it. How much should I seed with? I will discard to be safe and start with a single species this time.

You have to go by color 2 estimate density since there is no homogeneity in phyto Supply. If I were you I would watch the videos on Poseidon systems.com they give a really good example of density and color.
