I'm getting 6 Carberryi anthias from Live Aquaria.... SHould I get all size small and one size medium or can I get a bunch of mediums.. How will I know they dont give me a bunch of males with females?

Based on the size below, will the mediums be male, female or unknown?

Small: 1-1/4" to 1-3/4" Medium: 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" Large: 2-1/4" to 3"

Kind of a crap shoot at that size. Perhaps try to request from seller for 1 male and multiple females. I would expect most at that size to be female, but have seen them come in as about 50/50 at that size when we would do orders at the store I used to work at.

Gender isn't based on size, but rather social situations. It is more likely the smalls are females, but sometimes they can transition into males at surprisingly small sizes.

My experience with anthias is always and always one of the females will change to male. I would rather get all the smallest ones and let them establish the social hierarchy .
I have stopped buying males and always want the smallest ones so that hopefully one or more will turn to males in time.

Regards,
Abhishek
