Tricky part is getting it to fit. If you want, make it fit in those filter cups sold on MarineDepot. Then it’s more than just RSR owners.

I think a cup design would give more options to use media in it if so desired.

Yeah, it's nothing fancy. I will say that the perforation design does matter. Whether it's holes, slots, etc. Each one has a varying effect on the noise it reduces, dependant on the amount of flow through it. I have yet to try one with holes, which seems to be the most popular design. The design in the image below seems to cut down on the noise the best in my setup... with the amount of flow that I'm running through my sump. I would love to try ones with simple holes in them though.
