Hi, I just added a bubble tip anemone from my LFS to my 6 month old FOWLR tank two days ago. I’ve never had an anemone before, and am wondering if he “looks ok.” Specifically, I’ve noticed he has some white spots all over and am unsure if this is normal or indicative of a problem:

The tank is a 55 gallon, with excellent and stable water quality. Occupants include several damsels, one Clark anemonefish (who quickly became best buds with the BTA as you can see,) some turbo snails, and two peppermint shrimp.

Water parameters as follows:
pH 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrates 0
SG 1.1023
Temp 77F
Unfortunately no other parameters are known at this time due to the limited test kit I’m using (common API kit.)

The light is a FluvalSmart AquaSky 2.0

Thanks!

Welcome to the family! Your anemone looks good to me. Your clown really seems to like it. I really like the color.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Yes, this is his actual color. He was purchased at PetCo.

Hi again everyone,

I wanted to revisit this thread to share some new concerns. Sadly, for reasons I’ve been unable to identify, my Clarke clown seen in the OP died suddenly a few days ago. He was perfectly normal one night at bed time and then we found him dead within a rock structure on the far side of the tank early the next morning. I’m quite confident water quality was not a factor, and I’ve been diligently exploring possible contributing factors without much luck.

That said, the focus of this post is the anemone who seems almost depressed. He’s looking awful this morning, and I’m not sure what to do for him. I’ve been feeding him mysis shrimp which he’s been accepting, but now he looks like you see below. I want to help him but I’m not sure what to do.

For the record, temp and sg have not changed, ammonia is 0, nitrates are 0, and there are no dead critters or excessive waste in the tank impacting water quality.

Possible bacteria infection. Try Cipro treatment for 10days. I had an Aussie orange tip that wasn’t doing well so I’ve been treating it and it’s getting better. I had Cipro from my own illness a while back and just used that.
