hey folks i had saltwater tank about5 years ago ended up moving an broke everything down. now 5 years later i’m back at it n would like to share with what i’ve been working on. so i ended up building my own stand (still not complete need to put some crown molding at the top still designing) bought n used 75 g drilled with a overflow , then ordered myself a life reef sump skimmer n refuge, still have 2 ai vegas from my old set up gonna stuck with these till i feel like upgrading not hooked up yet wait on mounts (lights tend to be pricey so these are fine for now i think ) also i saved a mp40 from my old tank , bought 75 lbs of dry rock to scape the tank n also n nice frag tree. i use 100lbs of live sand , to cycle my tank i used turbo start 900 . the tanks been running for 2 weeks n just put the turbo start in on thursday night kinda jumped the gun n ordered a pair of clown fish they come tuesday maybe too soon but the turbo start says has a five day cycle period , (anyone Familiar with this product that’s used it ?) bought a refuge starter pack from algae barn got my copods comming thursday along with the chetto. going to attach some pics of my progress please any advice or constructive criticism is Appreciated maybe some help on picking fish for this reef build

Looking good! Clownfish are pretty hardy fish. As long as your ammonia is at 0 and stays at 0, you’ll be fine ;)
ya that’s what i’ve been reading people saying they cycled there tank with clowns , just a lil nervous don’t want them to die there just so Beautiful here’s a pic

Your stand is very attractive and you obviously have some advanced woodworking skills, but are you comfortable that it is robust enough to support several hundred pounds? Having had a stand failure in the past I'm paranoid about such things.

’im a roofer actually but do have some woodworking skills, i have a bunch of extra support things that you can’t really like L brackets have 4 of them n also i added another brace in the back just like the one in the front (middle) also no signs of it looking like it’s going to fail , the tank goes from end to end with its weight on the legs of the tank let’s say the tank sat in the middle of the stand i think the. it would be an issue ,

Nice set up and welcome back!!

What test kits are you using?

The bottle bac is pretty good stuff and works very quickly. There are plenty of working threads about this. As long as you read 0 ammonia you're all good.

What have you been adding ammonia/food as well during the cycle to see if it is being processed?

The new bac needs some food to live ;)

Your clowns should be ok if you read 0 ammonia, just remember to add newer things spaced out as your live bacteria needs time to build with each new addition to your tank. If you aren't careful and stock too quickly you will have a mini cycle as the tank is too new.

I'm excited for you and cant wait to see the next coming months!!

Hi and well done, looking good, like to see you’ve got your aqua scape set up with plenty of caves and gaps, I can’t stress enough that aqua scape is to me, the most important piece in your tank, you have to get this right, it has to be looked from all sides of the tank and have plenty of holes for fish to swim through and retreat into. Also it has to be three dimensional to give your tank that natural look so you can see through parts of your aqua scape to the back of your tank. Good luck

It's all good ;)

Start testing your ammonia and nitrates. You can test nitrites also but are just an indication that your bac is working so dont worry about that one too much. As long as you get 0 ammonia and 0-low nitrates you are cycled.

You can just drop a little fish food in the tank to feed the bac.....but to be honest with your fish coming you wont have to worry about that lol

I would definitely get a test kit if you dont have one and double check before you add the fish.

It's been 5 years so remember to acclimate the fish as slow as you feel comfortable. Most of the careful acclimators drip acclimate for 30-45 min.

Others just float the bag and add 1/4c of water every 10 min. ;)

Also think of getting a QT set up for the future it will save you a head ache later lol

Yes you could :)

But if you end up using the fuge for your system a simple $10 / 10g tank will work for QT. Add a small heater and air stone amd your basically there. People manage ammonia in a QT differently. Some seed their QT, others just manage with prime or other ammonia binders.

It's a personal preference really lol

hey guys here’s one of the first additions to the tank. The ‘Bean Bag Yuma’ is an interesting color morph of the popular Ricordea yuma. some one told me if u put two mushrooms together they would breed together ? anyone know if this is true ? has anyone done this before ?
