Does anyone know if this is aiptasia? It was a hitchhiker on a hermit crab, now there’s about a hundred of them that keep popping up. They look like mini bubble anemones with green bubbles.

What I have is aiptasia, guessing your talking about me because you mentioned the mantis.

I am guessing your talking about what @Djkarp posted. He/she is not the OP, just someone asking a question, not sure if he/she has a mantis. Just FYI. No harm no foul. Thanks for the education.

It’s a whale corpse and stuff colonizers it. Basically get dirty infested live rock then build a circle of it around like a Whole tilapia or some kind of dead fish then the animals consume the fish and colonize it
Nobody:
That dead tilapia:

I’d just put whale bones which you can buy in idk if a dead tilapia would work cause organics plus bones be tiny

You can. But you need some kind of decomposing and rotting corpse for the fish to eat. Mabye you could use the guy who thinks that Nemo can live with their betta

Whale Falls are super deep in the ocean where there is no light that’s where I think he’s coming from. Whale Falls are essentially an oasis in the midddle of a desert, it’s structure and food in the middle of a vast flat foodless ocean floor. Here’s a video that might help you understand.

But not everything in the wild we can perfectly recreate, the only reason that works in the ocean is because the ocean has clean water. If you did this in a tank it’d turn into a toxic pool of organics and everything would probably die. A whole bunch of rotting meat in a tank wouldn’t go over well.
