It's a hobby. I get a bit tired of hearing about how expensive it is...

Yep. I've been doing the reefing thing since 1990, and fish tanks in general since the 1970's, so I'm guessing I've easily spent many tens of thousands on tanks, fish, live rock, etc...

But I suspect I've a similar attitude - I've long ago realized that it doesn't matter what I've spent on any hobby in any way shape, or form, and buyer's remorse/guilt, satisfaction over "saving" money in a sale, hacking together a DIY project because you've an fundamental objection over the cost of a commercial solution, etc.., etc... are simply human illogical emotional pathologies. That doesn't mean that I'm not occasionally subject to them, but since I realize that's exactly what they are, I just put it out of my mind almost immediately.

I've been at it since 1987, freshwater since about 1967. Estimating just the SW I'm guessing more than 75,000, maybe more than 100,000 if you include everything. 9 or 10 complete setups. All DIY stands, mostly DIY lighting, salt, water, electricity, rocks, sand, pumps, sumps. skimmers, reactors, dosers, test kits, plumbing supplies, electrical supplies, food, LIVESTOCK!, several trips to the keys to collect (with a wholesaler), and I'm sure I've forgotten plenty.

I remember spending about $100 in 1988 at Kingsley’s place on 40th st and thought then how expensive this hobby is —- I still have the pic of that clown and rock anemone
