Hey so im currently quarantining 5 tangs.
Blonde naso
Powder blue
Blue hippo
Purple
Desjardini sailfin

They have been in quarantine for 2 weeks eating like pigs I feed nori and frozen. Everything acting pretty normal. Hide when I go by but relax if I stay still or a minute. But all fins are being expanded.

Just noticed my hippo scraping on the pvc a little. I don't think I see anything. Definitely nothing on pectoral fins of any fish. Maybe something on top of Desjardini dorsal fin maybe losing a little color. Powder blue no problem. Blonde naso black spots on face? Purple color looks good but maybe if i look hard might have discolored slime coat?

AM I going crazy or should I start treating?

Ugh... I was hoping just to watch. All spent time in copper at fish shop. But dang. Well now to treat. Copper (cupramine) vs hyposalinity

I prefer coppersafe as if doesn't deplete over time but get a test kit and test daily to maintain copper levels. Saliferts Test is easy.

Edit: All of your fish look healthy from what I could see. The powder blue had a white spot (not ich) in one of the shots on its left side but I didn't see it in the other pictures.

Do you know how long the fish were in copper at the store and at what level?

What I've read is that many fish stores treat with copper at less than therapeutic levels which suppress the parasites but don't get rid of them. It can then take 30 days for things to show up once you have the fish.

I think that spot is salt on my glass. Thanks for the opinion on coppersafe

I think one or two fish was not in copper for the full 30 days so I completely understand that they all could be infected. Hence the reason I am qting all of them. Trying to practice good husbandry.

Do you have a preference on coppersafe vs cupramine

100% chance with that many tangs that ich or velvet is present. Always treat. I would say the powder blue alone gave you a 99% chance.

Treat with coppersafe or cupramine for a full 30 days at therapeutic levels, testing daily. No amquel, prime, or other ammonia detoxifier with copper it will make the water toxic. Also, get the ammonia badge by seachem to monitor ammonia as copper renders most ammonia testers useless.

Coppersafe, imo but I've had luck with both.

Good for you! And aren't you glad you did?

I actually prefer TTM. I haven't had to use copper yet. I understand that TTM is tougher with a big QT tank, though.

You know, 2 20s almost equals a 40. If you can make enough saltwater, you could use the 2 20s for one transfer and the 40 for the next. Get them all through in 12 days rather than another 30.

Treating with Coppersafe for 30 days is a good idea, but don't forget about flukes either. Two rounds of Prazipro, 5-7 days apart, would be best either before or after copper treatment.

on a side note it is really hard to photograph tangs. Especially with my phone.

Should I stop increasing copper for ich and start prazipro?
