Hey everyone, so Hong Kong reef club have been upto something pretty exciting during the C19 restrictions, and we are hoping you will all be able to enjoy it very soon.

But before I get into that a little background story time . So around late 2018 I got put in touch with a friends buddy who was into reefing here in HK, just as another hobbiest to chat with, which was nice as I always found it a little difficult to connect and even find local hobbiest to mingle with.

It was at this time I dreamt about a reef club in hk that sounds be able to give reefers or like minded peeps a place to go chill and talk fish.

Obviously that was a big dream due to venue space being a huge expense here. Anyhow, as my WhatsApp group grew to about 10 people, I convinced Scott to help me run a reef club, he gladly agreed and it was named HONG KONG REEF CLUB. I know not very original, but it stuck and here we are two and a half years later, we gathers about 80 members on WhatsApp alone and with the kind space R2R has allowed us to use I hope make more will join here.

So, back to the exciting news. . HKRC has been sponsored with a venue space to use as it see's fit . Now as we see fit a few examples are, regular HKRC BBQ&BEER night once a month, frag swaps events, educational talks, voluntary activities such as beach clean ups, aswell as just being that place to relax and chill after a long day's reef shopping, and the best part.... it is located on fish Street .

We are also building and Aquaponics system which will be used to grow a range of vegetables, this will also be a focus for school visits and educational talks.

OK and now for the REALLY exciting bit, as if that wasn't enough already . We have been donated a 6foot 180g aquarium that we have converted into a reef system which will be the HKRC display tank for all to enjoy.

We will be holding an open evening on Dec 3rd where we have invited a local reefing vender to showcase some of their newly developed products for critiq, as well as discuss some future products

Just so exiting for a reef club to have the opportunity to do something like this I had to share.

Looking forward to seeing you at some point.

Ill leave your with a few pics of what we've been upto so far

Hey Guys welcome back to another tiny update nothing crazy to report just yet.

Its been a busy week at work for all of just at HKRC but we managed to get all equipment in the frag tanks, almost all electrics connected and lighting racks arrived.

Both systems are on day 3 of the leak and temp testing, which are both passing until now .

We have 75kg of live rock delivered which is now curing so we are almost there which is good as we will be hosting our first live event on Friday coming .

This particular event is a product review event from local aquarium equipment manufacturer here in Hong Kong. It will also be the first time we get a small group in for a BBQ so I'll be sure to post pictures .

The aquaponics system is 90% there and the salt water lagoon build is now underway. Both will be used to grow various vegetables which we will use for the burgers as well as educational / Donation purposes.

All pretty exciting stuff really just before Christmas. And on that note a happy belated thanksgiving to you all .

As always a few pics, of nothing more than a bunch of cables. Haha .

First event complete and a little more update so here we go .

As promised a few photos from our first event of Hong Kong Reef Club which as you know was a little product Review/pre launch, it was a very enjoyable evening with the few people the C19 restriction allowed us to have, but none the less the vendor received lots of helpful feedback and plans to apply this to some of their upcoming products .
Well done guys.

The burgers were amazing to by the way .

Another little update then from the lounge is the completion of all electrical works. (i'd been trying to put that off for the longest time lol). Seriously shaving down 17 plugs so they fittedd in was not my idea of fun, but hey it had to get done so onwards and upwards as they say.

We were very lucky to be given an ATI 24" hybrid fixture yesterday to which we had no idea what to do with. But ended up it fits just perfect over one of the display refugiums so that will now be converted into a mother colony holding area interested. Leaving us still with 1 refugium to enjoy.

The frag room is 95% complete now, live rock is on site in the lagoon (which is home to all sorts of critters but is still a mess of wires)

The last job to do (which I have also been trying to put off lol) is the drilling of around 1200 holes in the home made frag trays.

In all of these posts I've totally forgotten about the main display tank so let me leave you with a few pics.

The day fir making the first coral shipment is getting ever closer and more exiting. As is our next event which will be a frag swap for Christmas.

Happy reefing everyone, catch you all soon hopefully.
