Sorry if this is wrong place used this cause I know of the emergency prefix. Woke up this morning and my BTA is stuck in filter tubing. He’s been super healthy and had quadrupled in size since I’ve had him don’t know why he decided to move but not sure what to do. Anyone have suggestions please help.

Stop the water flow or take tube covering off and place on tank bottom and it will release
Directing water flow at it also would force it to release

You may find it difficult to remove without additional damage. If you have a second screen for the filter, one trick is to disconnect the part the anemone is attached to and set it on the tank bottom and let the anemone move on its own.
If the pedal disk is lacerated, it may not recover though.

To protect other life in the tank is it worth attempting this or just throwing the anemone away to avoid it nuking tank. I know if you cut a BTA it’ll heal but no idea how it would heal being sucked up.

If you watch it closely, you can catch it before it decomposes (I use the nose test). I’d try to save it for the reason you mentioned, then can survive cuts.

Update: I got it out and into this small container. Just checked parameters so far normal. Not sure how long I should let it try to free itself.

I wanna see this guy survive. I got him when he was the size of a cupcake. I just got a probably overstocked, but very healthy and happy reef tank and I don’t want to risk the lives of the tank for the nem and it sucks cause I work all night so can’t be home to monitor. Hoping I can figure something out.

Update: came home on lunch and the tub I had it in to free itself was not good. Anenome looked like melted goo. Unfortunately it did not make it. Please if thread ever referenced in future make sure to use a filter intake cover/sock to avoid this. Not fair to the nem. Sad day.

I think it was because you had it in a tub no circulation or proper temp. I would have just put it on sand bed in tank. But then again if it still melted it then would have been in tank. Sorry to hear this happened.

I had the tub floating in tank with an air stone. It never freed itself from the filter intake but the stuff hanging out looked really bad and smelled like death :(

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. The bright side is would have been a lot worse if it got into that unprotected powerhead right next to your intake.

Turn off the filter. And then turn off the lights. Anemones don't like its foot being exposed to light. So it will get out of the filter and move on its own. I had carpet anemone get stuck in a power head already and survive.
