Hi everyone.
So i talked my girlfriend into building a reef with me its not my first.
She travels all over the world to snorkel and look at reefs so i thought she would like a little reef of her own right in her living room.

We have been buying items like a new planet aquariums reef ready 150 peninsula style tank 60x24x25 , radion xr30 G4 pros, trigger sump , octopus skimmer, 120 pounds of marco rock, powerheads reeflink and lumber for a stand which we started this past weekend. i took a couple pics of our handy work out in the garage.
I also have a reef keeper elite that the net module actually works and i got set up pretty easily following a few directions i found here on r2r..
Anyways heres a couple stand build pics from the past weekend and it sitting in the house.

About the stand build.
Ive built a few stands in my life and know that 2x6 is way overkill but when i was at the lumber store i looked at the 2x4’s available and they are garbage, if you do one thing right building a stand it should be that the tank sits on a straight board all the way across, you dont want any voids where the tank isn’t supported.
2x6’s are alot straighter.
Second thing of concern is drywall finish.
Yep drywall it is, if it can be in your bathroom and not mold it can be on a fishtank stand.
Im fairly good at not spilling any water and have thought about the humidity in the sump area, it might be prone to mold but i plan on finishing the inside with leftover plywood we used for the top and then painting it.
We want the stand to match the walls and trim in the house like it was built that way.
Itll have same texture and color of paint to match.
Im a drywaller so drywall was the obvious choice. :)
This weekend we are going to finish the stand and get the holes cut for plumbing and sit the tank up there.
Thanks for listening to me ramble ill keep this updated as we go.
:)
Tonight we cut the opening on the stand for plumbing.
Used a spade bit and a jigsaw.

Tonight we built our bean animal and return.
The planet aquarium tank we purchased has two 1 inch holes and 2 3/4 holes.
We are using 1 of the 3/4 holes for the emergency drain in the bean animal and just splitting the return into a y of lockline .
Tomorrow we are going to paint the top again and finish the drywall.
I need to search on r2r here and see how much water a 3/4 pipe can handle as a emergency drain before we pull the plug on a return pump.

This morning i finished the corners and shot texture on the drywall.
Gonna let it sit outside and dry all day.
Tomorrow we can paint it and finally sit the tank up on it to work on the plumbing.
My replacement filter set for my rodi unit came from brs yesterday too so thats ready to go.
2/9/20
Last night and today we got a coat of primer and two coats of paint on the stand.
Also got the tank up on its stand, that sucker is heavy.
Set up the reef link and had trouble with it setting the lights up on the ecotech live , it just kept stalling.
Did some research here on r2r and found others had same problem and hooked it up to the router wired instead of wifi and it worked almost instantly.
I like the xr30 pros.

Today we are going to unbox the marco rock and mess aroud doing some rockscaping which i find to be maybe the hardest thing to do when starting a new reef, seems im never happy with what ive done, hopefully Angela will be good at it.

This morning i unboxed the jebaos rw or pp 15’s are what we went with for the time being. I thought about getting ecotech’s but i kinda got sticker shock on them.
Ive owned jebaos before and was happy with them especially the price for what they do.
We also got the plumbing ruffed in, nothing is glued yet.
Still have to order a return pump, i think weve decided on a sicce pump, they seem to have good reviews on the online stores.

Ill post some pictures of the rockwork weve come up with tomorrow.

Got the ro/di unit set up in its spot today in the garage.
Used a saddle valve into the cold water line of the hot water heater.
It has a sediment +2 1 micron carbon block + 2 di resin chambers.
Its at 1 ppm into the di chambers and 0 coming out.
Waste water is going into the pool out back.

The e marco 400 is here.
We are going to secure some sketchy rocks together so they dont fall.
Got the plumbing glued and the bulkeheads all tightened up, leak tested in the overflow box.
I think we are going to start filling it up with water friday night.

Havent posted in awhile.
Tank s cycled but we still havent done our rock work.
Nitrate is through the roof so we purchased some chaeto and a innovative marine chaetomax light.
Built the doors last weekend and put baseboards on the stand today.
Going to do some wood filling on nail holes throughout the next week and paint next weekend.

Looking great! You definitely have done a good job building and sourcing components for the build! Have you and your GF decided on what you'll be putting in it yet? SPS, LPS, Softies?

The tank and stand look awesome
thanks alot !
we kinda got busy doing other things but its was a big deal since the tank needed to mature a few months but we got the stand painted again and still need to do some brad nail putty touchup.
i still havent glued any rock to gether either because im not sure what i want to do with it.
rockscaping is thehardest part if you ask me.
