Had this xenia for about a month now, and I just notice this fan like thing sitting in the middle of it. It looks like its snapping shut intermittently. It not part of the xenia (its a different color and is not pulsing) but it looks like its feeding.

I was thinking of trying to remove it with a baster.

thanks

Sorry for the picture quality, it was the best I could get.

i would remove the xenia totally unless you are happy with a xenia tank. i put them in my tank early on as they look cool pulsing but i cannot get rid of them and they keep spreading around the tank. just a thought,

Looks to be a barnacle. Probably attached to the plug, not the actual coral. Never seen a barnacle attach to a soft coral.
Could be, I can only really see it from one direction.

Are barnacles something I need to worry about?

I really like the xenia, it just mesmerizes me.

I have kept my rocks very modular (and not very natural looking) for your stated reason though.

If it gets off its island, I can take out the rock with it on and remove the offending coral.

I like xenia too, so much so I started a tank just for it. It will never have a place in any tank of mine again unless it has it's own.
