all depends on what you want to keep. if you go with a t5 only fixture, i'd suggest getting one with at least 6 bulbs (to maximize your color options) and one that has individual reflectors.

don't waste your time or money on old technology. don't get power compacts.

t5s will shimmer a little if you have lots of surface agitation.

you will want at least 6 bulbs for good color combinations (as gilmour suggested). if within your means, go with an ATI sunpower or powermodule and don't look back

I'm about to go with a 250 watt Lumenmax mogul reflector, galaxy ballast, and radium bulb supplemented with retrofit T5s on my 76 gallon 1/2 circle.

I am no expert, a long way from it. Before you decide what lights you want, ask your self what you are wanting to riase in your tank. When you decide this, then you will get some good advice on which way you should go.

I always went with the philosophy of get more lighting then you might need right now so that as you progress in the type of corals you want to keep. This way you don't have to upgrade again if you want to eventually keep SPS or other light loving corals. If you went with all T-5 there isn't much you can't keep, but you won't get the shimmer of MH. If you looking for the best of both worlds then get a MH T-5 combo.

I did as Azurel said, bought T5s and MHs when I got my tank and am happy I did. The MHs weren't cheap though, think I have just at a grand in them.

I love the shimmer of MH, but the blue of T5s are great. Put them both together and you can get a great combination
