Hello, new to this hobby ~6 months and made my first coral purchase....3 clove polyp frags. They have this brown growth on them and it seems to be getting worse and now I’m noticing some brown spots on my rock and substrate. I did dip these in Coralrx before putting them in the tank but whatever this is seems to be getting worse. I’ve attached 2 picture of the 3 frags and I hope it’s clear enough to see. Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe diatoms BUT pics are too blue to determine.
Simple test- using a turkey baster, give it gentle blasts. Diatoms will blow right off.

Yes, it blows off pretty easy with a turkey baster. I believe you are right...I googled images of diatoms and it looks just like this stuff. Sorry about the picture and thanks for your reply.

Yes, I do have some of those spaghetti things growing from them and you're right...when they are open...they are a beautiful coral.

Diatoms associated with new/newer tanks and come from inotganics and silicates. Occasional siphoning works, slight reduction in white light intensity and you can add sand sifting star or some nerite and nassarius snails to keep in check
