I have been putting up with the high temperature of my 20 gallon tank with a sump. I think my high temp is due to many equipments.
It has been running at 80-84 degrees F. My tank is SPS dominant. Polyp extension on the acros are good and growing slowly.

However, I think it is time to hook up my chiller. I do not even use a heater since January 2021 since the tank was first set up.

I run a chiller year round. It doesn't always turn on. In fact it rarely turns on but I had a major tank crash when my AC went out for a week many years ago. Never again. I also realized that in a prolonged power outage I could not run my AC off a generator but I could run the chiller.

I run heaters and chiller year round to keep the water temperature stable year round. The setup is in the uninsulated garage and the ambient air temperature swings many degrees year round. I have a large skimmer that acts like a forced air heater/ cooler to the tank which the chiller/ heaters (redundant) have to work against.

Yes, ours is plugged in year round. We've gotten up to 80 a couple times and the chiller has actually run. If you've got a chiller no reason not to have it hooked up.

Same here. Expecting 75 degrees here in CT tomorrow - wouldnt be surprised if the chiller kicks on for a bit.
