I only use my phone. I bought a fire tablet to use as a display and control center and never ended up using it.

So if u want to measure say par or flow or anything in real time the display is best if not it takes awhile for the tablet or phone to update

Not sure if you use Amazon Alexa, but you could also add a little Ecco Dot for $29 bucks, and have her call out stats. "Alexa, Ask Apex Fusion for a Status report" ....

It's super easy. Just enable skill in Alexa App, and then a few settings in Fusion then you are done.

I prefer my phone/tablet but i have an apex display on hand in case wifi goes out I can still control the unit. For those in lightning prone areas I suggest you DO NOT hardwire your apex. I have lost two units to lightning. the new apex works just fine with wifi.

I use Alexa to enable feed cycles and log test results and it works great. I’d like to use her more to turn things on/off etc when working on the tank but you have to pre define code names for the outlets, it’s not exactly straightforward and I can never remember what the code names are. Wish they came up with some better way to handle that.

The “code names” don’t have to be anything special. You can just call your skimmer outlet “skimmer”. That shouldn’t be hard to remember:)

I just yell out “Alexa, turn off the water air sucker green slime spitter thing in the sump”. Works every time.

Will this work with the amazon dot? That’s the only Alexa device I have I can spare.

Yes an Ecco Dot will be just fine. Any Alexa app that you can command will work.
Here you go:
Change Controllers Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to control a different system
Turn Something On Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to turn on feed mode A.
Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to turn on the skimmer.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to turn the wave makers on.
Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to start feed cycle D.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to start storm mode.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to start tank maintenance.
Turn Something Off Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to turn off the reactor.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to turn off feed modes.
Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to turn the sump light off.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to stop feeding.
Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to stop photo mode.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to stop the siren.
Set an Output to Auto Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to set the reactor to auto.
Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to switch the sump light to automatic.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to turn the T5 lights to auto.
Get a Status Report Alexa, ask Apex Fusion for a status report.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion for a flash briefing.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion what's up.
Get Status Alexa, ask Apex Fusion what's up with the sump light.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion about calcium.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion for the status of the reactor.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion for the T5 lights status.
Advanced Commands
Function
Commands
Restart an Output
Alexa, tell Apex Fusion to restart the skimmer.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to restart the auto top off.
The restart command is helpful when outputs have been configured with delays using DEFER or MIN TIME statements, and you'd like to return the output to automatic operation immediately. Two sample usage scenarios are:

  • Skimmers
You've turned off your skimmer to empty the collection cup; that's now done, and you'd like to return the skimmer to automatic operation, while skipping the 3-minute delay programmed into the skimmer output. To do so, you can say “Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to restart the skimmer.”

The output will be toggled from OFF to ON, then to AUTO, skipping the delay and resuming the normal operating state immediately.

  • ATK Alarms
Your ATO reservoir ran dry, which caused the ATK pump to run too long, going into an error state. You'd like to restart the ATK without having to manually open the Apex Fusion app and toggle the output to OFF and back to AUTO. You can say “Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to restart the auto top off.”

The output will be toggled to OFF, then to AUTO, clearing the error and resuming normal operation for the ATO.
Measurement Logging
Function
Commands
Log a Measurement
Alexa, log a test result with Apex Fusion.
Alexa, log a nitrate test with Apex Fusion.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to log a test.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to log a calcium test.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to log alkalinity as 8.3 dKH.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to log iodine as 0.2 parts per million.
Alexa, ask Apex Fusion to log a Hanna ULR test.
Supported measurement types:

  • Alkalinity (dKH, ppm, meq/L)
  • Calcium
  • Iodine
  • Magnesium
  • Nitrate
  • Phosphate (ppm, ppb, Hanna ULR / phosphorus)
This info is in the Help Section in Voice Control.

I have to go through the same stuff with Alexa and Crestron automation stuff.
You have to tell Alexa to tell Crestron to dim the living room lights and so on.

I've had Crestron controls in my home theatre for over a decade, but it's been a big hassle getting it reprogrammed for new gear.
Apple for example doesn't have anything on Crestron as far as tightly controlling their ecosystem.
Or at least, that used to be the case. I haven't upgraded anything in a couple of years.

Control4 my friend!!! Reminds me so much of my Apex gear, but for my Home Theater.

I do Crestron, control4, lutron, savant, etc. Hands down Crestron wins every time. We can do way more with Crestron than with any of the other systems. Plus Crestron stands behind their products! If people are complaining about Crestron, it is because they haven't had the right guy programming.

What products from Crestron are you using in your theater? There are so many new products that they have now. We are remodeling our home now and I am using Crestron for everything. Lighting, shades, distributed audio, video switching, theater, hvac, etc.
