API test kit?

Hi all

I've seen many people using API test kits. However, my LFS told me it's not that accurate. Is that true? I find it very easy to use API test kit products. But is it reliable?

It's fine. Salifert may be better for certain things, but you can add those tests later.

API is ok to use for your initial cycle. There are other kits that are more accurate. Red Sea and Salifert are a couple of good ones. Hanna Checkers for phosphate and alkalinity are also good choices.

When you are dialing everything in to keep acros happy you will want to upgrade your test kits.
Thats 6 months away at least.
API is fine for now.

Red Sea, Salifert, or Hanna are all good kits. You won't need to check for ammonia once your tank is cycled.
