My one bugbear with this tank is the return and overflow system - it is shockingly bad, little to no surface skimming and i'm probably only getting 300lph turnover through the system from the return.

I believe that the UK brand TMC use an American made "Lifeguard aquatics" fittings - either way, im dumping it off :D

the Italian made X-aqua is on its way and will be here today.

I also said to myself that I wouldn't paint the back of the tank, well, like everything, ive changed my mind so a can of low VOC paint is on its way and ill be doing it in-situe when I change the overflows :D

More to come - hang tight!

Ah! I thought id let you all see my true "bodge job" bracket I made for my light! - Its literally the length of an old bed, with a slice in it, bent 90 degrees and secure with - yep - door latch strikers - holds like a champ.

The length of "bed iron" is actually sat on the floor behind the tank with the same holed bracket as where the lights are attached - this is then simply cable tied to the centre of my tank from inside the cabinet to hold it in place - works like a charm!

Light bracket looks awesome. No issues if it works haha. Overflow looks interesting, are you able to change the type of attachment to get one with teeth that allow for skimming? I’d suggest moving the powerhead closer to the sand-bed to help give it a bit more flow - should help with the diatoms

Diatoms have more or less burned out today, its green time now :D

Powerhead on "else" mode smashes my torch in the least flow area of tank, but will be high enough when the tank is stable enough for SPS

The x-aqua is here now too, can't wait to swap it for the standard pipework, free waves due to the return pulse design :D!!

OK yesterday was a tough one but all done!

Old overflows removed, had to cut one out! Back of tank painted, 4 coats, quick drying, new Xaqua overflow and return fitted!

Return pump now on full blast, might even need a bigger one, so an excuse to upgrade me thinks!

The wave motion the return provides is literally fantastic, the drain is a little louder, but for the movement alone I can cope with that!

OK, another quick update, diatoms, GHA and other new tank nasties have been and more or less gone now.

Starting to look lovely, a few more corals, maybe one or two more fish, if the right ones come along, and then sit back and watch it grow.

Upgraded return pump from the TMC reef pump 1500 to the Sun sun JCP-3500 DC and wow, what a difference, doubled my turnover and sump is moving much nicer and less stagnant.

My dosing pump also arrived, ati essentials Pro liquids on the way.

All coming together :D

Quick video.

Added a Jebao wp10 I got very cheap, this couple with the SOW-4 and return pump gives me around 80x turnover - should be enough for some acropora action!

Happy it's all coming together!

So far its stable, and i'm only dosing 1ml a day till my alk / cal uptake increases as the SPS kick into life properly - Will last me forever like this! (2 x 2000ml pro)

The "Pro" variant of Ati essentials is only 2 bottles (I bought 2 x 2000ml) you dose the same amount of each, mine are spaced 1 hour apart so 1ml of "A" at 11am and 1ml of "B" at 12pm

Quick update of the tank under whites, have placed some of the SPS frags on the rocks I bought now! Also got a nice little purple Pavona, he looks like Chewbacca! - As you can see, I dropped and smashed my forest fire trying to re-mount it - it now seems to be coming back, was sulking! - My Pearlberry Acro is now colouring up nicely also! - the polyps are now fluro green under actinics - leading me to believe it isn't a pearlberry!
