Hello. I am setting up a new 90gl reef with a wooden canopy. It is solid structure with doors on the front. Top inside is 10" above water line. I just bought a new Aquatic Life Hybrid T5 fixture and also (2) Kessil LED lights. I need to find a way to mount/hang the fixture on the inside of the canopy. Wood is 3/4" strength. I would imagine I would make use of the tracks already built into the fixture using spacers or something.

Was wondering what others have used to do this. Any suggestions/pictures are much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Evening,

Nice to see another Charlotte person. We have a few folk from this area on here. You have a few mounting options, 1 is like you mentioned. As you try a few different options keep in mind that height from the water and the enclosed space may present issues.

When planning out your mounting location I would want to be sure to have adequate ventilation to ensure your ballasts don’t overheat. If your tank does not have tops your reflectors may get salt spray on them. The Kessil‘s may protrude above the top of the t5 fixtures forcing the lamp closer to the water as well.

Just a few thoughts. Where is charlotte are you?

Measure twice. I have a 90 gallon tank with a tall canopy, bought the same hybrid fixture, and ended up having to return it. I even had an aquarium maintenance company come out to find a way to hang it, and they couldn’t. Not just that, but I eventually figured out that the canopy wouldn’t close if the fixture was in there. It’s meant for 2’ wide tanks, not 18” tanks like the 90.

I drilled 2 holes above the end caps on the end of each set of lights and screwed it directly to the canopy. I have a Radion XR15 which ventilates from the top so I purchased longer M5 screws and nuts to space it lower and further from the canopy.
