You have achieved success when you reach the goals YOU set out for. The idea that every tank must be the same is just silly. It is perfectly acceptable to keep a nemo clown in a 5 gallon fish only tank and be a success for you. The idea that you "have to have" coral at all, much less colonies or coraline, is just not the goal for everyone. Nor should it be.

Success for me personally is seeing growth in sticks. If they didn’t grow, I’d take it hard on myself.

I have think being to keep something that makes you happy counts as success. For example, I have probably dozens of hidden clams, oysters, barnacles, even a turkey wing clam. Most of them came from my TBS rock, which I have had for maybe two months now. Needless to say, they are all doing amazing; I even see the molted feathers of barnacles floating around occasionally. That means they're growing!

Success is having healthy fish, clean water with normal numbers and to have corals colorful and happy.

Success to me is fat coral dumps. The larger the poop, the larger the success.
Is this big enough dump to qualify as success?
