yes the ammonia badges, put side by side at first to check accuracy between two in tank portion, then place one in kreisel, leave one in tank just to make sure enough water change between both, kreisel and tank,so sure that ammo is not higher in kr. than tank ,hopefully is equal

Thank you I can use all the help I can get. The Kreisel tank inside the tank is raised above the water level and has a mesh screen on the side to allow for water passage but keep the shrimp inside brine and harlequin and possibly even rotifers since it is 25 micron

Great stuff! Following :)

Now I work at a small public aquarium, so my first though was "make the volume larger, then it would be much easier". But I understand if that's not possible at home. Anyway, look into adding another tank to the "larvae-system". That would give you more water and more space for both biological filters, like live rock, bio balls etc and a skimmer etc. That would also mean that you don't need water changes every day. Or at all, depending on how good the filtration works.

I've only read some about these shrimps and their larvae, but somewhere I read the larvae are quite large when hatched. So that's good. But I didn't find any size, so I couldn't compare to the other shrimps being cultured. If they are larger you might not need rotifers at all. So using newly hatched artemia might work. Copepods probably works better, more and better(?) nutrients. Look for pelagic copepods(the ones that lives in the water column, not on the bottom).
When breeding peppermint shrimps we used artemia and crushed flake fish food. You could try crushed flake food and see if they grab it. That we could see with ours, so we continued feeding with it. But we didn't have great survival, so our food could have been better for sure.

Then you might want to look into some kind of simple automatic feeder. We had a container with an airstone which we filled up with newly hatched artemia and live phytoplankton once or twice a day. That container had an overflow so we pumped tank water up into that container with a controllable dosing pump, and then water, artemia and phyto ran down to the larvae bucket through a hose. That way the larvae got some food 24/7.

Going to make some changes. There is a 0.3 degree difference in temperature between the Kreisel and tank. Currently have a 25 micron mesh on the Kreisel but going to change it to a 75 micron to allow better flow. Also added some well established rock from a 20 gallon tank that has some snails that I am ghost feeding. Thinking about transferring the Kreisel to a 10 or 20 gallon so I have some more room for filtration. Would like to add a deep sand bed and a skimmer oysters and possibly a sulfur denitrator. Have been wanting to build a diy one and this tank would be perfect to try one out

It's like a mad scientist pre- natal delivery ward in here. My wife really wants a harlequin. My reefing skills lately has me sketchy about it. Probably a good thing she never see this thread. Ever
Lol you are actually not far off. I am a nurse and was the lab technician for the science department in school. Got really sick one time inoculating ecoli onto growth medium

That's awesome it's cool to see all the blue light in the background of folks pix here. I'm sure Igor gets jealous as much time you spend on your UM .... Project lol
We have Moose. Hes part of the team he insists! Always in the way when I'm trying to work on the fish room. Dont bother putting up the gate now he just sits on other side and cries until he has enough and pushes it over lol.
He has alerted us when fish have jumped out of tank so it is what it is.
Didnt like fireworks last night though until we brought him outside to light ours.
Cant believe how big this baby is getting

That is one big sweet baby! My cat Benz (stray found by the wheel of a Benz and so tiny had to be feed with a syringe) has to play with whatever I am doing with the tank and it does not help that this cat loves to play with water. Benz as a baby
