Acrylic is way nicer looking. Egg crate is more of a DIY material imo. I wouldn't pay much, if anything, for an egg crate rack unless it has some really cool features.

why the preference?
Zoas are stupid easy to frag when they grow out on acrylic, assuming they don't grow down into a hole. If they grow into a hole, you'll need to break out the scalpel. Other than that, cut your pizza slice in the mat and scrape the mat off the smooth acrylic.

Acrylic -- looks a lot nicer, and much sturdier (well, if build right). Built in magnets on a lot of them also!

Acrylic. It looks nicer and if something overgrows the plug it is easy to make another frag.

Never used one. That's what the awesome neighbors are for when we go on vacation.

I only use auto feeders when absolute necessary, like vacations. Just another potential failure point that I dont think has great enough benefit to outweigh the risk to use daily.

i have the neptune auto feeder. I tried filling it up without removing it but i accidentally dumped the whole thing in the tank. Now i just use it when I go on vacation. I did notice whatever corals where right under the feeder, really seemed to grow!
