Hey everyone, I am returning to reefing after a 6-ish year break. I had saltwater reef tanks from nanos to an 80g reef over a period of 4-ish years during my teenage years (24 now). I live in Washington DC. I just ordered my tank from SCA Aquariums. Below is a list of what I have/am about to purchase. I need a sanity check to make sure I am not missing anything.

My plan is to have an SPS dominate mixed reef. No specific fish plans yet.... (except the obligatory clown pair). Not too much has changed since I left, however I am rereading a ton of information to refresh my brain.

Any recommendations/inputs/information would be greatly appreciated!

Purchased from SCA(shipping out soon!!):

  • 90 Gallon Cube Tank 36x24x24” 12mm starfire rimless
  • American Grey Cabinet 36” tall made out of Pine wood.
  • Glass Sump
  • SCA-302 180 Gallon Skimmer
  • SCH40 Plumbing Kit
  • EcoTech Vectra M1
  • EcoTech Mp40WQD
  • EcoTech XR30WPROGen4
  • EcoTech RMS XR30

from BRS(yet to order):

  • 60lbs of various dry rock (buying the rest needed from LFS live)
  • 80lbs of dry sand
  • CORALLINE PURPLE - OCEANS WONDERS REEF EPOXY
  • Apex EL
  • Coral Pro Salt Mix
  • Refractometer
  • Red Sea Marine Care Test Kit (for cycle testing)
  • 200w Jaeger Heater (might switch to 2 smaller ones)
  • Flipper Magnetic cleaner
  • 4 stage RO/DI 100GPD
  • Ammonium Chloride to start cycle
  • filter sock/mount
  • Coral dip
  • prazipro for QT tank
  • swing check valve for tank return

Future Purchases/plans (in no specific time order, some are soon, some are 6+ months out):

  • Neptune ATO
  • Neptune Trident (when it comes out)
  • Neptune dosing pumps
  • Addition EcoTech XR30WPROGen4
  • EcoTech Radion Hanging kit
  • Additional EcoTech Mp40WQD
  • Additional test kits as needed
  • pump/separate supplies for QT tank

(yes I'll make a build thread for this awesome tank) :D

I would get the ATO sooner than later, it was my best purchase I made, Apex later, epoxy- get that at Home Depot at half the price, I have 3 heaters in my tank. So if one fails my fish don't freeze. ;Dead

To explain myself a bit better, ATO isnt in the initial purchase because I dont know the exact spacing of my cabinet yet, I fully plan on having it by the time I get the live rock and such in.
