Yes - he’s one of my favs as well. Hope he will get huge in this tank.

I also like the Emperor but somehow he’s hiding in rocks since yesterday, no heavy breathing - nada. Just shy?

Chasing the pH rainbow -- it's between 7.77 and 7.93. Currently, it's not a big deal since it's mostly LPS dominant. However, I added 2 small SPS frags (WWC Yellowtips & ORA Blue Iris) recently and mini colonies will come soon enough. CaRx is hooked up but not running yet since the alk demand is still not there. Now -- I'm concerned that my pH will take further hits when the CaRx is online.

I'm loving the pH boost dosing kalk on the frag tank with pH of 8.2 - 8.4!

What do you guys do on big tanks?

I’m dosing 4000 ml of kalk per day and it’s keeping my ph above 8 in the evening.

Nice! That’s a lot of kalk!!! What do you use? A big barrel?

Mine is below, no kalk, no CO2

I question how accurate the probe is but I did just recently calibrate. Unfortunately, I use a 5 gal bucket so I’m refilling every 4-5 days. I may upgrade to a 10 gal. I replenished 1x per week on my old tank so that’s what I’m used to.

I would experiment with it and see what it would take. It’s pretty cheap but you have twice the volume

My ATO is a 30gal container and I was mixing kalk to be dosed using a Kamoer STP. Well, that didn’t end well since it was clogging the tube so I stopped.

I like the Avast K1/K2 solution since it’s just gravity fed. I have the K1 on the frag tank and it’s working great. Perhaps getting the K2 for the big tank makes sense.

Alternative is to go with a CO2 scrubber but it will be super expensive. Besides, it’s another media replacement I don’t wanna do.

Decisions..decisions.

@keelo yes — I’m down south from LA. It’s a long drive to Harry’s but he has a huge selection of fish & corals!
That is one LFS I have yet to see, if you are in the area again check out Ellis aquatics! Man you have a great build

Thanks - will definitely do.

I used to hunt for rare SPS frags but recently it’s been torches, hammers, and zoas. Guess I’m bored after filling the 150gal with SPS so now restarting all over again with softies!

Ellis has a decent selection. Golden state corals has some nicer SPS. If you want torches and hammers you can get a bunch for cheap on LAX aquariums auctions on Facebook which is every Thursday night Friday night I think

So this is interesting -- usually the Emperor is very bold and he's feared by others in the tank. He was hiding for 2 days until I stopped vodka dosing (since that's the only thing that changed). He's out of his cave and wandering around for food today.

Possible that he had a hungover? Coincidence? I was only dosing 12mls/day.

Fish room UPS/Generator help -- I would like to build a battery backup solution, backed by generator to keep both tanks alive during a power outage. Although power outages are rare, it happened before. What do you guys suggest as a localized solution? I just want to have a localized solution and not the whole house.

I'm thinking of a (propane) generator with 2 separate batteries (one for each circuit). Like so:
Generator: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Firman-Dual-Fuel-Generator/5001896805
Battery: https://us.ecoflow.com/products/delta-3-series-portable-power-station (qty 2)

What do you guys recommend?

I have no direct experience with Generac home standby generators but with the above you are already at $3k and reaching Generac pricing.
